I would like to make a profit off my collection but I am not willing to put in the time for it. I do laugh when people talk about decluttering their lives, because throwing out what amounts to maybe 3000 discs in storage tubs won't do it for me. By the way, I missed the age of 8-tracks but still recall the high alert security in stores, where only skinny armed bandits could even reach inside the case to read the back sides.

My fear with your situation is what happens if something happens to that hard drive? Or, do you constantly try to keep backing it up?

I have a backup on my Google Fiber home drive. It's 2 TB, so more than enough space to hold everything since most of the movies run @ 2-3 gb. The portable drive I also have them on has @ 300 movies. Usually what I do is when I pick up a new external drive and consolidate my wrestling files, I upgrade everything accordingly and move the files to a newer drive and off the older ones.

One thing re: Hard drives...

If you own something so completely special that you cannot replace it, you need to either keep the original, have a backup hard drive, or copy a bunch of originals to a high volume disc such as Blu ray. In this day and age, there isn’t much that is irreplaceable. If any of us lost our collections, whether it be cds, wrestling videos, movies, NFL games, etc, I guarantee you could easily replace 99% of the collection if you wanted to and at very little cost.

Pretty much. To be honest, most of my movies are courtesy of the KC library system, which has a massive collection. I have a branch across the street from where I work. Once a week I'll do a search on 5 or so movies I'm interested in and put holds on them and they'll transfer them to that branch when they're available. I just pick them up after shift go home, rip em, then return them when I work my next shift. I started looking through top movie lists by year and looked for films that I'd never seen..and it just started building.
