This sentiment comes out after each 'school shooting' I have to admit that I don't like it but I don't have the answer either.

Seems like creating a band aid, and not addressing the problem. Again, why does this happen so much here and not other countries on a regular basis?

No, for the simple fact that a student or students could overpower the teacher and get the gun. And if it's in a locked box by the time the teacher could get to it chances are the shit has already hit the fan

I'm not sure about forcing teachers to have guns, but I'm also not in favor of the general prohibition on guns on school campuses. Many teachers would be too squishy to actually use a gun in defense, so I'm not sure that forcing them to possess one would be a great idea, but there are going to be a few who are already carriers and would be far more effective in a live shooter scenario. I'd like to see it made legal to possess on school property and leave it at that. Now any Cruz-wannabe has to guess if someone's packing or not. Currently, they know they can shoot up the place with impunity -- at least until the law shows up.

Its NOT a good thing for children to get used to armed solgados around every part of their life.  If a bunch of teachers bring guns, theyre gonna shoot the fuck out of those rotten fuckin kids.

I'm in favor of allowing teachers to carry if they go through special training and them carrying is a secret. If they're trained, why not? If not the teachers, at least the security guards. My kids grammar school isn't protected by an armed guard, and it's weekly fortified. All Chicago high schools have a part time cop working the front door, but not the grammar schools.

Given that the vast majority of shooters end up also shooting themselves, I'm not sure that there is much evidence to suggest that they consider their own safety when carrying out these attacks.

When that episode originally aired in the 70's, 100% of America laughed at Archie and said "What a goddamn fool."

If that episode were to air today, 50% of America would say, "What a great point this fine American patriot is making."

We are getting so, so stupid.

Every passenger on a plane doesn’t need a gun to stop a hijacking. some of those passengers just need to have the guts to stand up and say fuck this and take the hijackers on win or lose. If you are on a hijacked plane you are pretty much dead the moment that happens so might as well roll the dice and try to make it out the other side.

Guns shouldn’t be in the class room

Teachers with guns is a bad idea. It won't deter anyone. It takes a certain personality to raise a gun and fire it at someone with the intent to kill or incapacitate. Being someone who has been trained to use a gun via hunting or the shooting range does not necessarily mean you can accurately fire a gun under immense pressure while knowing that the person you hit, if you hit them, might die and is likely a child. Even someone who was in the military years ago and is now out of practice would likely have a hard time and my understanding is that while everyone in the military gets weapons training, the number who actually have fired their weapons in a combat situation is very low. So being a trained vet turned teacher might not make that person ready either. Then comes the question of who is being shot at and who is in the way. What happens if the target is missed and an innocent student nearby gets hit? What happens if the target is hit and it turns out it wasn't the perpetrator? What if there is a false alarm and a teacher gets the gun out? The chances of the wrong person getting shot seem too high. The candidates to carry guns are not active law enforcement or military personnel who are in practice. The whole thing seems like a very bad idea.

I wouldn’t want any of the teachers I work with at my current school to carry a gun.  NOT A SINGLE ONE.  ZERO.  NADA.

I would be in favor of an armed retired military vet of good reputation serving as a guard though.

Go ahead and poke holes in it. I don't have the answer. It's the best I come up with.
