WWE aired a preview for Matt Hardy vs. Bray Wyatt in Ultimate Deletion tonight on Raw as the match, which was taped last Friday at the Hardy Compound in Cameron, NC, will air on next week's episode of Raw.

The Ultimate Deletion preview featured the WWE debuts of Matt Hardy's Platoon, all members of his family with their characters imported from their time in Impact Wrestling - Queen Rebecca (Matt's wife Rebecca Hardy), their sons King Maxel and Lord Wolfgang, groundskeeper Senor Benjamin (played by Rebecca's father) and Hardy's faithful drone companion Vanguard1 (playing himself).

A number of trademarks featured in previous House of Hardy compound segments during Matt Hardy's Impact Wrestling run were also featured in the preview, including Hardy's dilapidated boat Skarsgard, the Lake of Reincarnation and more.

In a vignette backstage, Kurt Angle ordered referee Matt Bennett to go to referee the bout next week.

If Bray Wyatt winds up in the Lake of Reincarnation and comes out as Husky Harris, it will all be worth it.

I'd rather see him go in and IRS pop out.

It was already taped and it doesn't seem like anyone else was brought in other than the referee. Maybe they just kept it quiet. I really hope they just let Matt write this and it exceeds expectations because the entire thing has been awful in WWE.  There's so much they could've done here with appearances by Rockstar Spud, I.R.S., the Bludgeon Brothers, and all sorts of other cameos but I fear they didn't do any of it.

II would have liked to have seen a former WWE diva make an appearance. She would have been billed as Delete-ta.

The Matt Hardy vs. Bray Wyatt Ultimate Deletion match was a huge hit in terms of engaging the audience via social media. The match was getting hundreds of thousands of tweets following Raw and trended #1 worldwide and in a number of major cities for hours after Raw.

Michael Hayes was listed as the Producer of the match. Jeremy Borash was obviously involved as well.

There was quite a bit of footage that Rebecca Hardy had filmed and edited herself that was used for Ultimate Deletion as well as original music she composed as well.

For those who have asked why Michael Cole apologized for the match before it aired on Raw, your guess is as good as mine. A cynic might say it was a message from WWE undercutting something they didn't create. I thought it was a poor idea personally, as it set the audience up to go in expecting something terrible, which it wasn't. It certainly was completely different (unless you had seen this type of material in TNA) but it wasn't terrible. The general consensus among readers we heard from overnight was that if you had never seen this type of thing before, you either loved the hell out of it or didn't see the point. There was no in between. If you were aware of the Impact material, you probably expected something a little more insane.

The real success of the match (and in some ways, the Matt Hardy character) will be measured by the ratings from last night's show, specifically the numbers for hour three. We'll know the overnight number late this afternoon.

Jeff Hardy did pop up for a brief cameo as Brother Nero. Hardy has been at the WWE Performance Center working out this week.

Interestingly, WWE did not air the match live at Raw last night in Dallas. They instead went to several dark segments to close the event.

Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy were both backstage at Raw in Dallas.

I honestly didn't like it as much as the TNA stuff and thought they missed so many opportunities. The Cole apology said it all. WWE thought it was stupid. But this is the type of thing where you're either all-in for the wackiness or you're not. WWE half-assed it. They didn't go all the way. They should've had tons of cameos, call-backs, and inside jokes. Ricky Morton should've still been stuck on the crane. The new baby Hardy should've pinned Rockstar Spud to make him 0-2. All sorts of guys should've been popping out of the Lake of Reincarnation. But WWE was afraid their fanbase wouldn't get any of it, even though the only reason they were doing it was because the fans wanted it. They wouldn't commit to making it good because they were afraid it wouldn't be, so it wasn't. They shouldn't have done it then. It's not like the average WWE fan understood any of this anyway.  It wound up being a really bad match and not a whole lot more.

I had no problem with the apology because it really was stupid. Even though I truly think Matt Hardy originally came up with this as something straight that he thought was cool and serious, he got on board with the over the top nature of it in a hurry and raised it to previously unheard of levels. Even by insanely campy and cornball pro wrestling standards, this was vastly over the top and for the WWE to throw it out there without acknowledging this would have been insulting to the segment of the audience that isn't tuned into the insider stuff and never saw TNA. Acknowledging the cheesiness also doesn't undercut Matt, Bray Wyatt or anything else about it. Given what a hit it turned out to be, at least in social media, this isn't the last we've seen of a Deletion type match from the compound, so the opportunity to push things further and have more cameos and inside jokes remains. There's no need to do all of that from the get go and have nowhere else to go later.

They lost 400,000 in hour 3 so I think this will be the last time WWE does this.
