Greg “The Bull” Luzinski

Anybody have any stories or memories of The Bull?

I know he was one of the few MLB players who planted a homerun in the upperdeck of Three Rivers Stadium.

Saw him play a ton. Had a few great years in the mid 70’s. Couldn’t field a lick. Started to swing at the low and away pitch all the time. Now has a rib joint at the phil’s Ballpark.

His BBQ sucks, just like he did.

DH for the White Sox. Put several up on the LF roof at Old Comiskey. The Bull was huge '81-'82-'83 for the Sox, then kinda fell off a cliff after '84. Got his autograph a few years ago at the fan fest.

This - I do remember a little bit of his time with the Phillies but not much...to me, he was the feared guy in the middle of the White Sox lineup.  He ranked with guys like Jack Clark and Dave Parker that in my mind I never wanted to see them up against the team I was rooting for because they could change the entire game with one swing.  I saw him hit two on the roof at Old Comiskey against the Yankees in the same series.

I saw him steal a base at Fenway Park off of John Tudor in '83.  Shocking.  Of all the Red Sox games I've been to over the years, that memory--this middle linebacker-looking guy with a lumberjack beard stealing second--is one that has stuck with me the longest.

Luzinski could hit but couldn't run or play defense. He did 'bat behind' Schmidt and kept the opposition from 'pitching around' Schmidt. His homeruns were epic shots.

That memory probably would stand out.

It's no particular image that stands out to me, but it's the sound of Harry Kalas exclaiming, "Home run, The Bull!"

Here's his rookie card. Prices vary according to condition. Anywhere from .75 to $10.
If it's signed ,  you could get up to $60 for it.Scott Reid - 38 games in the bigs.
