In Georgia Ole goaded Ellering into signing a contract that Ellering didn't read.  The match was Austin Idol & Jerry Lawler vs. The Road Warriors 2 out of 3 falls.  The Roadies had Ellering handcuffed to the post & Idol & Lawler had Bundy handcuffed to their ring post.
The winner of fall one got to unlock their partner and wrestle 3 vs. 2.

April 26, 1984 at Cleveland Convention Center- National Tag Team Championship: 2 out of 3 falls – Ellering and Bundy handcuffed to ring posts!- 1) Austin Idol pins Hawk 2) Animal pins Idol 3) Road Warriors lose by DQ

The AWA did the same match with Blackwell & Brody vs. Baron & Crusher.  Abdullah cuffed in the heel corner and Mad Dog Vachon in the face corner.

I was new to wrestling at the time and assumed this was a classic stipulation.  I've never seen it since, and in my inter web travels I've never found it prior to Ole doing it in Georgia.

So did this stip happen elsewhere or was it an Ole invention that Vern copied but no one ever used again?

I've never heard of it until just now, but I like it. However, the booking of the actual match kind of defeated the purpose. I know they didn't want to make the Road Warriors appear weak but once they lost the first fall and now had to face a fresh Bundy, they should have lost the second fall too, in order to sell the stipulation for future use.

I wonder if heels would not have wanted to be handcuffed, since it could leave them at the mercy of angry fans.

I really liked it too and wish it would have caught on.  I agree with you booking it would need to be done right, and you would need to create some logical way for the team that lost fall #1 to win fall #2 despite being short handed, or you have one of the participants not get involved.

In this one the fans wouldn't likely care if Ellering didn't get in, but if you cuffed a star to the corner the fans will be pissed if he didn't get involved.

Like it a little. Could see 'the handcuffs being broken' leading to other things during the match, etc

I like the concept as a few and far between stipulation match.

I’m surprised JCP never lifted this idea in the 80’s with all of their factions running around.

I think that may have happened in the AWA match.  I think Abdullah got loose somehow.
