32 years ago today:
7-19-1986
I originally created this a few years back and it was one of the most popular videos I had on my old channel.
Today I redid it from scratch with new clips and I'm happy to present again what WWF called "The Great Betrayal".
Follow along as Hulk Hogan and Paul Orndorff break apart into what would become one of the best feuds of the 1980's.
6-14 - Flower Shop
6-21 - Flower Shop
6-28 - Flower Shop
6-28 - Orndorff calls Hogan
6-28 - Orndorff closing remarks
7-05 - Flower Shop
7-12 - Hogan, Orndorff vs. The Moondogs
7-19 - Hogan, Orndorff vs. Bundy, Studd
8-02 - Orndorff tells his side
8-02 - Hogan tells his side

Hard to believe the 'turn' took a month. I would have told you 2 weeks. (going from memory)

I still get a kick out of Orndorff and the phone call segment. Just great stuff with how he reacts.
And that crowd chant at the end of the 6-28-86 Flower Shop ... times have changed.

I learned that every single promo of that era had to be preface by "Let me tell you something..."

Simply awesome. Even though this was telegraphed in that classic WWF, it was still shocking to see that piledriver go down.

This is the first angle I can vividly remember first-hand as a kid. I had watched wrestling off-and-on as far back as 1983, but I'd say this was right around the time I got obsessed with it and the Saturday and Sunday shows became must-see for me every single weekend. I believe at this time it was on in NY at 10:00 AM on Saturday morning and I remember it was on at like 5:00 PM Sunday afternoon for some reason, although that would change to Sunday morning quickly after.

As A 12 year old, I could see his turn happening a mile away.

I watched this a couple years ago when nothing was going on at work and I really enjoyed it - thanks for putting it together because I loved this angle and like what was said above I saw it coming a mile away. I will watch this again because you said you improved on it.

It's easy to forget, but Orndorff was so fucking good during this timeframe. As a kid, he was so believable.

Next to Piper, Orndorff might be my favorite Hogan foe.  I think he's one of those guys that falls under the radar 30 years later, but he was outstanding in the WWF for about a 3 year period.

LOL that phone call. I too, and Im sure everyone here, saw the angle coming a mile away. Such a fun angle, which of course led to the 70k at CNE stadium for the Big Event.

Was watching some TNT last night, and it was when Orndorff was at the Beauty Salon - hilarious!

Made me wonder about something: how far, in advance, was the main event announced for Toronto's "Big Event"? If the turn aired on July 19, I'd imagine the local promos aired shortly after.

They might've promoted "The Big Event", locally, before July 19. If they did, I'd imagine it was something vague like: "see all your favorite Superstars! Hulk Hogan! Junkyard Dog! Dick Slater!"

Good question - just found a link with some explanation. Brings me back to some great times!
I still have the newspaper clipping with that advertisement (the one in black and white on the link)
