I watched a few of their routines on YouTube and I thought they were great. How did I ever miss them? Slightly risqué but more ‘sexy’ than anything else. Lots of ass-shaking and hair-flipping. Not a bad looking girl on the squad.

The Timberwolves dancers did a routine to "Baby Got Back" at the 2005-06 season opener that included such moves as the gals twerking (before that was what it was called) and mock spanking each other in some risqué outfits. It was amazing and while it got wildly cheered that night, people complained and the team made sure that routine never got another airing. It was an amusing scandal for a day or two and there long time fans, media members, and Twolves employees who still laughingly remember it.

The article below briefly mentions it.

I don't see any scenario in which cheerleaders still exist in 10 years in America.  I'm pretty shocked that they're still around now, tbh.

So what are the scandals? Were they shagging the players? Dealing coke? As for their moves, I watched the first clip and in terms of their routine I'm not seeing what sets them apart from any other dance troupe/cheerleader squad.

Nah, they'll still be around.  There are a million moms out there who want to be the next Kris Jenner and think that dressing their little girl up like JonBenet Ramsey and having her shake her pre-pubescent money maker is a vital first step.

I don't think it's the cheerleaders who were doing anything wrong, the Mavericks have just been hit with a lot of sexual harassment and abuse of authority allegations and then Cuban was criticized for how he handled them.

On the contrary, every NBA team has them and the overwhelming majority of NFL teams have them with no appetite for getting rid of them. Even the NHL teams have their own version of sorts with hot chicks who help clean the ice. They're a big part of the college football and basketball overall atmosphere.

Competitive cheerleading, which now involves independent squads that have no affiliation to any school or sports team, with routines judged for points, is growing and the only obstacle to its further growth is the insurance issue since it's extremely dangerous with all the flips, dives, and tosses.

Pro teams will have to clean up their act with regard to how these women are treated, but I see zero chance of them going away on even a visible small basis. As mentioned, the Mavs are riding out a sexual harassment scandal and are trying to improve their image. The dance team as it has been in the past will slowly creep back in and be in place by the 2020-21 season.

I think the future of cheerleading will more closely represent gymnastics.

A friend’s daughter was on a high school state championship winning cheer squad last year and it’s all work they werent shaking butts or swiveling hips. They are tumbling, flipping and throwing each other around.
