I dunno. At work they were telling me the best thing from the 80s was ‘Thriller’.
Gotta be something better than that.

Rocky III. Everything you need from the 80's in one handy carrying case!

-Sylvester Stallone
-Mr. T
-Hulk Hogan
-Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger"
-Big summer movie blockbuster sequel

Also, the theme of Rocky and Apollo burying the hatchet, making peace, and becoming friends... there's hope for mankind, dammit!

It's a pretty entertaining movie, too.

I am going with this one.

I always look at the ‘80’s in two phases:
1) Early ‘80’s seemed like a colder and darker time.
2) Mid to late ‘80’s pop culture explosion.

MTV
Cable television
Miami Vice - one of the first TV shows to include hit music of the day. Other TV shows soon followed this format including 21 Jump Street, Family Ties, etc

When I went to see Rocky III in the theater, there was another showing immediately prior to mine.  There were tons of people in the lobby of the theater waiting to get in but we had to wait till the previous showing was finished.  While waiting out there we could hear the audience reacting inside and when Rocky knocked out Clubber there was a huge cheer and clapping.  In today's too-cool-for-school/everything has to be cynically ironic culture that would never happen.  I miss those days.

On the other hand, Rocky and Apollo cavorting on the beach in their short shorts?  Who green-lighted that shit?

MTV/cable television/pop culture -
my millennial son has said to me - "Wow, the 80s must have been wild!" - he bases that on the crazy fashions/hairstyles/music videos he has seen I think.
