One for the WWWFers.

Why these two?

I found them to be fairly similar.

Both were 'stepping stones' to getting that title match vs Sammartino/Backlund.

Both had the cultural fanbase thing going. Putski was to people from Polish background, Strongbow to the Native-Americans.

Both were 'good guys' forever.

Both are former WWWF tag team champions.

Both got by on their personalities. Grading their ringwork and mic work without going back and re-watching ....tough thing to do.

Both 'no doubt' Hall Of Famers

Who was better?

I'm going with Patoozki (as Jesse would say) because from what I've heard over the past 15 years or so, Chief Jay Strongbow was a first class dickhead.

Strongbow wins on the kayfabe scale as he was a much more important figure in WWF history. It's not even close. As far as workrate, that's brutal. They were both so bad it's tough to say. Cosmetically, Putski always looked good while Strongbow had an embarrassing physical appearance for the last few years, like an old fat senile man stumbled into the ring and security was being kind by not removing him, but the fans still loved him.

I was a Big Putski fan when I started watching in 81-82.

This is to a degree the pest vs cholera question of professional wrestling

Both were fairly lame, Putski had the better look, but Strongbow sold his matches WAY better.

Strongbow for many reasons but not the obvious reasons.

As a kid, both Strongbow and Putski were great stars. I remember kids in grade school imitating the Strongbow war dance at recess. Putski was the big-smilin’, fun-loving Polish strongman who kids just adored. Putski was hardly ever serious but when he got mad you knew he meant business.

Things changed as I got older. Putski’s character got more muscular and less fan-friendly. He was pushing his jovial style at this point which made it less enjoyable. Strongbow on the other hand was still doing his thing as he would take a licking around the ring with shots to the back and he would call upon the warrior gods as he broke into his war dance which now became expected and funny. And whoever got tired of hearing Vince saying, “Strongbow is putting the bad mouth on .............”.
Great stuff!

Putski became more worried about his physique and was boring in the ring now that his personality had been transformed into a pushed jovial persona.

Strongbow was better and more enjoyable over the span of his career.

Thinking of Strongbow makes me wonder if he was the first wrestler to ever “Hulk up”. He would do his war dance and no sell and then fire back. Anyone do a similar schtick before him? Bruno would occasionally no-sell during a comeback, but that alone doesn’t make it a “Hulk up”.

I have stumbled over Putski results in the process of doing other research, and the finishes are almost always a victory or losses via COR and DQ, with it almost as if Putski refused to do business any other way. This is the late 70s to 1984 Putski in particular. Strongbow set up other talent when it was dreamed appropriate with clean losses. Been assessed that both men were incredibly over, but I will go with Chief because it didn't come across as him believing his hype.

This is no fair. It's 2 against 1. We all know that Ivan Putski and Mighty Igor are the same person, lol.😂😂😂
The wrestling mags told us.
Not that either were really very good but Putski was one dimensional in the extreme and has the distinction of the worst, and the wrestler the fans love to hate as per the Wrestling Observer in 1984.
More titles for Strongbow, in an era where the strap wasn't changing hands every 15 minutes.
Was Strongbow ever even for a short time a heel as Scarpa?
