I have listened to only a few shoot interviews in my life.

I was talking recently to a guy who frequented the bar by or at the Howard Johnson’s in Pittsburgh. He was saying about how wild and crazy some of the times were when Piper, Orton and crew were in town.

I have searched YouTube but have found nothing that really goes into anything about his days with Piper and others on the road.
Orton would be a great candidate for a book.

I’ve heard many over the years. They all bleed together and some are obviously exaggerated. Many stories of Orton having to be a real-life bodyguard for Piper and protect him from fans in the mid-‘80s when he had nuclear heat. A few drug stories including Orton having to talk Piper off a ledge (literally) when he was coked up.

They were known for setting the bar up and the snow was everywhere. The rats were always there, also. Orton and Piper were not far off from their ring characters. Piper would have the entire bar entertained. Orton would sit back and put it away just laughing in the background. Piper was a real wildcard in being crazed and laughing and then stone serious in a few seconds.

I have heard the ledge story and the stun gun episode.

I think Orton would have some classic in-ring and out-of-the-ring stories.

there are clips from a Orton shoot on youtube but he is not that revealing and his memory is a little off. he says he only wrestled Ric Flair once or twice when they actually wrestled each other closer to 30 times. he is asked about certain wrestlers and nothing crazy is revealed. you need a interviewer who will ask the right questions of course. he says when he and Don Kernodle wrestled David and kevin Von Erich in the NWA tag title Tournament in January 1984 the Von Erichs told them their dad would not let them lose cleanly in their match with them and also says John Stossel deserved to get slapped out by David Schultz.

I think I may have seen that one.  I was not impressed.

If the stories came from Piper, there's a 99% chance they're 100% bullshit.

sadly Roddy was known for making up a lot of crap. Hell Bob Orton Jr found out Roddy had been lying about his age after he died.

These stories are coming from witnesses at the Howard Johnson’s.

I am not sure if Orton is a straight bullshitter, also.

I am not interested in Piper’s versions of stories.

I've noticed that some of the older guys still are uncomfortable 'shooting' (ok they are addicted to lying)  and just aren't good at it

A lot of them simply don’t remember anything, or have told the same lies so many times that it’s become truth. They don’t know they’re full of shit.

Watching Orton on the interviews leaves the impression he's a little slow on the uptick. Probably too many beers and too many bumps over too many years.

watching Pipers shoot stuff is painful to watch. because of the fairytales and because he seemed to have brain damage from too much of everything in some way. because he would drift off into other stories and nonsense and they would have to bring him back to the topic.

I watched some clips with Tommy Rich which were funny. he is entertaining but he is still sort of living in the kayfabe world.

Kevin Nash's shoot interviews are really good and he is funny which helps.

Imagine a Hulk Hogan shoot? lol speaking of guy who is living on Fantasy Island. that would probably be like a Trump interview where you would be shaking your head at the amount of lies being told.

I was just watching the barry windham shoot with a guy named Hannibal. these would be better if the interviewer was a lot better. the guy didnt seem to do much research with Barry. the interviewer is thinking Barry and Mike Rotundo started teaming in the late 70s. come on. that hurts these interviews. know your stuff if you are talking to these guys.

Hannibal is the Canadian wrestler who sued Abby for giving him the gift of Hep C. He has a ton of those videos and he's equally bad in all of them.

I just saw Hannibals shoot with Orton jr and its just not that good. Orton is not a big talker and does not remember everything but there is not much research done by the guy. he skips over way too much, he asks about Ortons time in the nWA in 1989. Bob didnt remember much but Hannibal had no idea about any matches Orton had there which you could look up. if he knew some of the things Orton did there he could have reminded Bob of them. but no....
