I get it that Florida gets Hurricanes, it's part of the territory.  But the past few years, there have been a lot more coming up to the Carolinas as compared with what I can remember in years past.  I'm starting to worry about more hitting the Northeast - because just like when Georgia gets snow, there is nobody in the Northeast prepared for a Hurricane.  Too many power lines above ground creates too much problem when something does hit.  Sandy KOed my power for almost 9 days, we had a generator that did everything except hot water so we took cold showers but otherwise just spent money on gas for the generator.  I don't want to have to go through it again, so I hope this dies down before hitting anywhere near here.

Here in the Hickory area, about 250 miles inland, people are freaking. Everyone is thinking it's going to be as bad or worse than Hugo in 89. I'm not freaking out about us right now, I don't think we're going to get it as bad as people are thinking, but the coast is going to get creamed. Here at the vending place my wife has been taking calls all day from people wanting to buy PALLETS of water, it's insane. In 89 when Hugo hit yes, it was bad here and we were without power for almost 2 weeks but that was 30 years ago, our infrastructure is way better now than it was then, at worse we'll be out of power for a few days but not 2 weeks.

I didn't really think about this until today though but the 2nd week of October we're going to the Outer Banks for a week, we have a big house rented with some friends of ours, we haven't taken a full weeks vacation in 10 years and now I'm wondering if there will be a house for us to go to...

Pallets of water is total bullshit.  That's greed, not panic.  Our local gas station when the power goes out for long stretches will only take cash and limit everybody to $50 of gas per day.  The last big storm, a guy brought ten 5 gallon gas cans for his generator, and they would only let him fill three because that was $50 worth.  He started screaming at the owner of the station and talking down to him, who then told him that he wasn't going to sell him ANY gas because he didn't want greedy people as customers, and I remember him saying "these people around you are your neighbors and if you take all the gas they will have none and I'd rather they have all the gas and you have none".

There has never been a person in the U.S. who has ever been in an emergency situation where he needed pallets of water since the invention of the water bottle.  It's simply never happened.  There's no realistic emergency ever that necessitates that, even in the boondocks.  And assholes do it in NYC too where if the stores go a week without a shipment it probably means we're all dead.  Just silliness.

As Jim Ross would saying business is about to pick up. hurricanes stacking up in the Atlantic and now a storm potentially developing in the gulf.

How long after landfall will it take someone in the media to use the term "Trump's Katrina"?

That was last year as he fucked over Puerto Rico.

Oh sure, when Obama was President it happened all the time. Since Trump has been in charge not one hurricane has hit the Northeast. He's been able to successfully send them down to places like Puerto Rico where there are no white people. MAGA

I live in Lexington, about 200 miles from the coast, and people here are panicking as if it is the end of the world.

Absolutely no bottled water to be found, bread and milk flying off the shelves faster than anybody can stock it, and if you want flashlights, batteries, or candles forget about it.

There was actually a fistfight in Wal Mart yesterday over the last 2 cases of water, and it was the shitty Nestle kind, not even the good stuff.

Of course, lets not forget the price gouging at the gas pumps as sheeple panic and try to hoard enough gasoline to start a fire bigger than any of the wildfiores in California if it gets ignited.

So now it's shifted "South" and SC and Georgia are supposed to get the brunt of it..by the time it actually hits WHEREVER it hits they'll have had it hitting every state on the East Coast....

I swear, the more technology they've gotten when it comes to the weather, the worse they've gotten at actually predicting it..

Are they that bad at predicting it or do they just want more dumb poor people buying more shit that they don't need and can't afford?  It also helps to jack up the sagging local news ratings in more markets if everyone is in crisis.  Weather is still a huge ratings draw, which is silly considering the app on your phone can tell you just as much as any "meteorologist" these days.

I think they start to predict this stuff SO far out trying to be THE ONES that actually got it right from the start, I think that's their first goal in all this, then they are all about making sure people tune in so they can sell a shit ton of stuff to bring back to their advertisers and ramp up their fees on their next contract....
