The Ottawa Senators have traded captain Erik Karlsson to the San Jose Sharks, TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports. According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, the Senators will receive Chris Tierney, Dylan DeMelo, Josh Norris, Rudolfs Balcers, 2020 first-round pick, a 2019 second-round pick and two conditional picks in return.

Sens just raped the Sharks here considering Karlsson was gone anyways next year.

They are going all in this season. The only way they could re-sign Karlsson is if they can let both Pavelski & Thornton walk after this season.

Thornton is 175 years old. He can go. Pavelski, meh. Maybe if the sharks win the Cup he takes whatever than can give him to stick around.
The Sharks prospect pool is one of the worst and they just got rid of Tierney, Norris and Balcers who might have amounted to something, maybe.
Be interesting to see what they do after this season. And I guess SJ and Vegas have 2 playoffs spots locked up in the Pacific.
As far as Canadian teams go screw the playoffs for Ottawa, Montreal and Vancouver.  Even worried about my Jets tbh who have a few question marks.

The Sens barely got 10 cents on the dollar for Karlsson.

Do we know what TB was offering? According to NHL network, the Sens were determined to deal him to the West conference, regardless of the TB offer.

I did hear that the Sens were worried that Karlsson could get traded to the East at the deadline if the Sharks fall out of a playoff spot, so they added protection and they would receive an extra 1st rounder from San Jose if this happens.

What the hell are they worried about? Don't get me wrong, as a Leafs fan I'm relieved he's not on the Bolts, but what do the Senators care? They're not making the postseason any time soon.
