I have limited time from Dec. 26 - 30 to go on vacation without the baby.  The plan was Iceland but airfare is 3 times as expensive that time of year, so I was thinking of going there in February instead.  I'm wide open to U.S. or international but prefer exploring cities rather than sitting on a beach.  What's a good place to go that time of year with reasonable airfare?

Do NOT go to Iceland in the winter, ever. At the dates you were looking at (end of December), there is only four hours between sunrise and sunset.

That’s funny; when I think of vacation the only thing I want to do is sit on the beach.

I did that for my honeymoon and don't need to do it again.  It bores me to be honest.

Dominican Republic. I went there wth my wife in 2004. They do an awesome tour to Santo Domingo. I'm sure it's affordable.

If you want to go to a city just look for whatever weird stuff that have as a last minute offer

Toronto.  Marijuana is now legal in Canada.  We have 2 great strip joints - the Brass Rail & the Zanzibar.
There are also 2 sports teams that don't suck like the Blue Jays. And if you're hungry, there's a donut shop that has been recommended to me - the Glory Hole.
Donuts, strippers, & marijuana - what more could you want ?

True, but I've already been to Toronto twice (albeit before pot was legal).  And I had some killer edibles while in Denver a couple of years ago.  Once every two years is actually my limit, I'm much bigger into supporting legalization than actually partaking myself.

How about Feb. 18-22?  That's the new plan.  I'm aware of the early sunsets and dealt with the same thing when I went to London/Paris/Rome a few Christmases ago, and it really wasn't as bad as I expected.

Iceland is way, way further north than London. It's slightly further north than Fairbanks, Alaska for an American comparison. The end of February is better, with 9 hours of sunlight. The temperature will be somewhere around 0 C or 32 F.

Re: Iceland, I didn't realize this was a "thing".  I've had two colleagues go in the past year, and they both went on two week vacations up there and said it was amazing.  Bucket list item for me, definitely, as it will be a long time before I'm ever able to break away long enough to do a trip like that, but sounds like fun.
