Thanksgiving is upon us so lets go back and look at 'our sport' (credit: Tony Schiavone) on a famous night in it's history.

WWE chopped version but you get the idea.

Seeing as we are having some "Overrated" and "Underrated" threads pop up, this would be my most overrated gimmick match of all time. What a horrible concept. Was so excited to finally see this on dvd (or VHS, cant remember) years ago during the 'tape tarding' years....and remember being so let down.

I literally just watched this again Saturday night. After posting my Starrcade 85 review, I rewatched ‘86 over Friday and Saturday night. The match itself had a couple of cool moments (Bobby doing the monkey bars underneath and the MX throwing powder early...cool visual).

I think the most annoying thing was that the scaffold was set up for all six matches at the Omni. It was just visually “in the way” for the entire night.

And this is a **** match compared to the "Capture The Flag" scaffold match between Eaton & P.N. News vs. Steve Austin & Terry Taylor at the Bash '91. Has a scaffold match taken place since then?

That's the first thing I thought when I saw this thread.  I cannot remember another scaffold match after that, and I never even saw that one.  I ordered it on PPV and I guess it was the first match.  There was a technical glitch and it didn't get worked out until after the match, and I got like a $3 credit or something.  I heard it was just awful, but to this day I never went back and watched it.  I have to find it on WWE Network.

In my mind, that's still the worst PPV I've ever watched.

I just looked at the results on Wikipedia.  I don't remember any of it, but it seems awful.  The longest match was Robert Gibson vs. Ricky Morton at 17 minutes.  That seems like a snoozefest, and most of the other matches were super short and randomly thrown together.

Didn’t they do another scaffold the following year between RnR and Midnights?

I forgot all about that ECW classic.  That clip was used on the opening of the show for years.  The craziest fall I saw until New Jack and Vic Grimes towards the end.

One thing I noticed about the ‘85 match when I watched it, Animal goes out of his way to protect Cornette while Jim is sliding off the platform and trying to get a grip underneath to prepare for his fall. Animal kinda holds on to him.

EVERY scaffold match is pretty much the same. Same spots, same "monkey bars" finish. They didn't play well on TV.

I put it on today to watch that scaffold match and I forgot that this is the show that Beejmi is on. Lol
