There have been rumblings, but I expected it after the season.

Was probably time for a change but it was pretty shitty to do it now. Just do it after the season...dude coached a lot of wins for that franchise..

I agree.

Four games left and you need to fire him now?

Was a long time coming. Better to pull the band-aid off now than wait til the end of the year. The seaon's lost anyway. Might as well get a jump on the coaching seach ASAP.

From various reports, Rodgers was extremely unhappy. That definitely had a lot to do with doing it now.

McCarthy wasn't a good coach. As Bob McNair would say if he weren't dead, "You can't let the inmates run the prison". But when the head inmate is your lock HOF QB, you need to at least meet somewhere in the middle. The Packers have not been the most talented team in the league in quite a few years but when you have Rodgers on one side of the ball and Matthews on the other, you need to fill in the blanks and get more than one Super Bowl win in twelve years.

From what I have read (who knows the truth since Rodgers hasn't spoken directly to it), Rodgers thought the offense was too constricting. He wants to be unleashed and doesn't want to be a "game manager".

The funny thing is it was the same complaint that Favre had back in the day. GB is so fortunate to have had 2 HOF QB's consecutively. That is rare.

Thirty years of Hall Of Fame QBing. Two championships. They wasted it.

Sadly, I (in Detroit) must agree.

I would think that you wait till the end of the season in a case such as this but in a city where nothing less than a deep playoff run is acceptable I guess I can see it.

Indy would be another. Manning followed by Luck. One title. 25+ years of HOF QB play.

It doesn't guarantee a thing. Dan Marino, Dan Fouts, Fran Tarkenton, and Jim Kelly come to mind immediately as guys who never won rings. Having an ace QB is important, but it isn't the only thing that matters.

Look GB has 2. I think that is a positive, not a negative. It also illustrates that the NFL, with all it's weaknesses, is a strong franchise. If GB can win titles in a tiny market, then the NFL is doing something right. Look at Pittsburgh. What I like ab out the NFL is that the size of the market is not the determining factor in long term success.
I know GB had 2 others.

It doesn't. But if I told you the Giants were going to have HOF QBing for the next 30 years you'd be disappointed if that equated to only one or two Super Bowl wins.

Green Bay being a tiny market is largely irrelevant because the NFL's revenue sharing equalizes the gaps you see in the likes of MLB and the players don't have the overriding desire to be in big urban centers like the NBA stars. The Packers have also recrafted their relationship with Green Bay as being a version of how a college team is the biggest show on earth in a similarly sized college town. If the team ever had a long term dark age like it did from 1968 to 1991 again, with Black players having some police run ins in the mid 1980s that made many media members question the viability of the team in Green Bay long term with either Inside Sports or Sport suggesting the team base itself in Milwaukee and only go to Green Bay on game days, then perhaps the situation might be different. However, for now it is seen as a place where a guy can go and contend for Super Bowls even if the number of Super Bowls in the Favre/Rodgers era is three and none in over a decade.

He gets a chance to regroup before next year's jobs start opening up. If they were going to fire him after the season anyway, just do it now and spare him this last month of putting in hours for no real purpose.

I don't think he is a Hall of fame qb at all, the body of work isn't there and goes to question how these writers keep giving out Superbowl MVP's  if used in the hall of fame debate

I dunno. I assume the 2 Super Bowl wins gets you in. I can’t think of anyone with ‘two’ that won’t get in
