Doubt that they ever made much impact in the States, indeed, in the UK, they never had much chart success, but Buzzcocks were one of the most influential punk bands of the seventies.  They took the DIY energy and fused it with traditional music subjects rather than aggravation to create the indiepop style.
Formed by Shelley and Howard Devoto after seeing the Pistols at a gig in Manchester before the Grundy notoriety.  Devoto soon left to form Magazine but Shelley stayed around and created some outright classics.  "Ever Fallen In Love", "I Believe", "Boredom"...

They were true pioneers in that UK punk movement. Personally I preferred Magazine just a bit more but the Buzzcocks were the real deal. RIP Pete Shelley.

This death is definitely getting attention in the U.S.  The Buzzcocks were considered an influential punk band here even if they didn't exactly sell millions of albums.

So the question remains, did Pete Shelley have a good voice or a bad voice? I can go either way. Love The Buzzcocks, though.
