Per Herb:

Kenny Omega says he is leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling.

In a new article on Tokyo Sport's website, Omega says following his loss to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13, he needs to take time away. The article also mentions that he is likely to go to either All Elite Wrestling or WWE.

“There is no real place for me to fit, so it’s best for me not to be in (NJPW),” Omega is quoted as saying. “I can’t be there working under Tanahashi. I don’t think he’s surpassed me, don’t think he’s better. If we can, I want to face him again. But I need time away, and not just from New Japan.”

His departure comes as the most of the Elite stable are leaving the promotion to start All Elite Wrestling. Cody, The Young Bucks and Hangman Page all lost their respective matches at Wrestle Kingdom and did not appear the following day at New Year’s Dash. Marty Scurll remains under ROH contract.

Omega’s contract with NJPW expires at the end of the month

I would be willing to bet that he’s most definitely reading this. Hope he takes your advice.

I would think he's going to WWE, simply because if he were going to All Elite, he wouldn't have said he's leaving NJPW. That is, unless the entire group is trying to swerve the public. Because from everything I've read, All Elite wants to keep working with NJPW because they feel it will help establish their brand. Maybe NJPW said that won't happen? We will see.......

Omega does this every year after Wrestle Kingdom.  It means nothing.  It's a great marketing tool for him to generate interest in himself while he takes a rest.

Gedo took the belt off of him because he was unsure about Omega's status. Omega's contract runs until Jan 31st, so there's no way for a possible Royal Rumble surprise.

You are pretty much spot on every time you post something New Japan related, but wasn't AJ Styles in the exact same position a couple years back where we all thought there was no shot he could enter the Rumble based on his contract running through January?  Then AJ showed up.  It makes me wonder if that 1/31 date that keeps getting thrown out there is done for that reason.  Kenny Omega was extremely unhappy with WWE a dozen years ago when he was in Deep South, so if he never shows up I would not be surprised.  But if he turns down the rumored contract he's been offered to work for AEW, he'd better be getting a title like Cody and Brandi have so that he's not only making money as a talent but also as an executive.

Everyone is going to mkae more money as a talent than as an executive.  Being given a title doesn't magically give you anything except more responsibility for less pay.  Negotiating a percentage of the gate like the old NWA champions did is one thing, but a title is the last thing anyone should want unless they're willing to work their ass off 24 hours a day for a company like Cody and Brandi are willing to do.

A.J's contract was up right after Wrestle Kingdom which let him debut at the Royal Rumble. From what I've heard, Omega has been offered a "massive" contract with deals involving gaming ( his passion). Xavier Woods being with the "E", is a big factor for him to join, as they both play video games online against each other and have written columns together for several years. Omega would have a lot more power then he did when he was in Deep South.

Omega's main concern with Deep South was Bill DeMott. He's long gone.

Re: New Japan contracts expiring on January 31, I believe they made that change because of Styles showing up at the Royal Rumble.

I find it hard to believe that Omega is going to base his decision on gaming.  Xavier's gaming passion is mostly satisfied with little to no involvement from WWE. And from what I've heard, the involvement there is is usually considered obstructive and Woods and Ryder have joked on Twitter with each other than the worst thing that can happen is for WWE to get involved in their projects.  If Omega wants to do something with gaming so badly, he can do it on his own.  They ran the "Being the Elite" show independently.  He really doesn't need WWE for any of this.  It just comes down to the $$$ they're offering and whether it's enough to put up with their shit.

According to bodyslam.net Omega is signing with AEW.

Bodyslam.net sounds like a very credible source, but according to me he's probably signing with AEW too.
