Look how over Valiant was. Lol wouldnt you love to see any wrestler get a reaction like that today? People like to make fun of the gimmick and he was not a great wrestler but the fans loved him. One of the best gimmick changes. Turned his whole career around.

So educate me Spatulapup (or anyone else that might know) -- what turned Jimmy Valiant 'good"?

Did something happen? Or did he just show up in Mid Atlantic acting like a babyface with no explanation after years as a top tag team heel (WWWF and AWA)

He first started in Mid Atlantic as a mid card heel "King James" Valiant, managed by Lord Al Hayes and it basically went nowhere, then he left for a couple of months for Memphis, and just came back as Boogie Woogie Valiant, still on the midcard until getting into a feud with Sir Oliver Humperdink and his men.Hump left and he started to feud with Gary Hart and Kabuki which led to the Charlie Brown gimmick, and after Hart left is when the 100 years war between Valiant and Paul Jones started. But I don't think there was any one memorable incident that really got him over against Humpy, it just sorta happened sliwly and took off.

Yeah Ole Anderson and Crockett found out how over he was in Memphis and started playing the music videos of him in Memphis on Mid Atlantic tv and told him to grow a beard. Then Jimmy suggested to Ole they play the boy from my city as his theme music. His first feud was with Ivan Koloff and it took off from there.

Thanks so much for posting this.
I went to my first ever live card, one month later at maple Leaf Gardens, to see JV vs IK in a Siberian Coal Miners Glove Match :)
As a 10 year old, JV was far and away my favourite wrestler
