I didn't know he started his career with it, but he made appearances in 2004-05 using the name.

Allow me to pick a nit here. Sarpolis dropped out of medical school after one semester (or one year, I forget which). For this was given the nickname Doc. He was billed as Doc Sarpolis as a wrestler, and Karl 'Doc' Sarpolis as a promoter, but he never styled himself as Dr. Karl Sarpolis.

G'day Kriss

Actually, Sarpolis wrestled as Dr Karl Sarpolis in Australia in 1930.

I tried to post some relevant clippings but my reply crashed so I'll just include a few newspaper links instead:

Maybe the stupidest WWE name ever, especially for a recognizable star.  This was worse than Bastian Booger.

Why was doctor a wrestling nickname? It's not menacing in any way.

Abdullah "The Butcher"- scary

Maniac Mark Lewin-intimidating

Wild Bill Irwin- look out he's wild!

Dr. Tom Prichard- Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh not a doctor!

I just Irwin as Dr. Bill Irwin... Why? I guess the same goes for the Medics and Interns. Why would that be a nickname you would choose?

I couldn't disagree more in 2019. Where I come from, you literally can't be a doctor unless you were not born in North America. American doctors sign up with a hmo- then are manipulated to lie and kill.

Being a doctor is a lot like being a cop. If you don't go with the (corrupt) flow, you're fired or done with
