Luke Harper, just back from injury, publicly tweeted his request to be released. It hasn’t been granted yet. This is pretty much a mass exodus.

Kinda reminds me of ECW back in 2000ish when Scotty Riggs left WCW and ECW fans shit their pants in excitement that Scotty Anton showed up. Just because they’ve been a name doesn’t really mean much if they haven’t been used right. And yes I was a huge ECW fan at the time and bought into it as much as anyone else.

I don't remember anyone going crazy for Scotty Anton.  IIRC, he was personal friends with RVD and they worked a program together, easily Anton's best matches but below RVD's norm, and then he was gone.  I remember ECW fans going bezerk for Sid Vicious, a guy who a year earlier they all were shitting on, so they did have their hypocrite moments, but I don't know about Anton.

It’s been a long time but I seem to remember good to great reactions for pretty much all of the former WCW / WWF wrestlers; Sid, Hall, Scotty, Jake, Jerry but I’m probably missing some.

PWInsider.com has been told by WWE sources that as of this morning, Alexander Wolfe, formerly of Sanity, remains under contract to the company.

I never saw much in Wolfe.  It's Killian Dain who looked like he could be a guy who could feud with Lesnar or Strowman when he was in NXT.  He was just on fire towards the end there and stole the show in War Games.  Then he was called up, and nothing.  What a waste.

They have more wrestlers than spots to use them in. Harper got a singles run, it was okay, but nothing special, then got stuck back in the Wyatt Family. I think a run in Japan would be good for him.

I agree. One problem the WWE faces is that despite Raw and Smackdown having separate rosters and storylines, there aren't enough pushes to go around. Someone has to be in the midcard. Someone has to work the opening match. That means people fans were used to seeing in highly pushed spots in NXT, the indies or New Japan have to take a backseat on the main roster. This happened a lot in the expansion era with guys coming in from the territories and during the 1990s with guys arriving from ECW or SMW. I don't blame Luke Harper for wanting to try to get more money or more enjoyment out of his work, but this isn't like if Steve Austin had left at this point in 1996, when they had a superstar ready to breakout.

I suppose Harper knows at 39 he's not going to get a big push again in the WWE, but would have a chance at a run in Japan as top gaijin, and then retire.

There's the same problem in WWE as with everywhere really since the war. Once you're at the top you don't go down. So there's a logjam of people who are automatically in main events despite not having done anything interesting for a decade. Randy Orton being the paradigm example. So that's one spot an Apollo Crews cannot have right now. (Although he bores the shit out of me.) That's not taking into account that, for realism, you cannot give everyone a big run. Some have to be midcard 4 life.

Where the booking is mad is they turned Elias face for about 10 minutes. And they're insistent on pushing Zayn as a heel. The crowd LOVES them. Surely one of them can be an Ambrose replacement. And feck knows what they're doing with KO.

If done right, guys can be pushed up and down the card.  Dusty made himself TV champion and he had tons of main event level opponents to feud with when they all slid down the card together to keep things fresh.  Arn and Tully weren't real main eventers but felt like they were because they could always be in 6-man tags with Flair and Dusty and other huge names.  It's a challenge but it's also not rocket science.  WWE has tons of start/stop pushes and just take guys off of Raw/SD entirely for months at a time.  They never did that before.  WCW was always the company paying people to sit at home.  Now WWE does that a ton, or if they're not at home they just work house shows.  It's still a waste.

AJPW has some big boys in Suwama, Joe Doering, Shuji Ishikawa just to name a few.

Go back and watch, Anton got a huge pop when he showed up in ECW.
