In last night's 12-4 Giants loss, Pedro Sandoval accomplished a rare triple feat of hitting a home run, stealing a base, and pitching a scoreless inning.  His stolen base was his first in 7 years and came in the 2nd inning.  He homered in the 6th.  With the Giants losing big, he was asked to pitch the 8th to save the bullpen, and after hitting a batter he got a double-play and a fly out, getting through the inning on only 10 pitches (7 for strikes).

What makes this more remarkable is that the trifecta had not been done since May 23, 1905, and the guy who last did it was the legendary pitcher Christy Mathewson.

I am impressed that he is still in MLB. When he was with Boston, it looked like he was so done that he wouldn't have been able to play in an Independent League. I know when he went back to SF he played a little better, but I didn't even realize he made the Giants this year. He looks about 20lbs heavier than his heaviest in his prime. Man, he could hit when he wasn't lazy. I'll never condemn a guy for his weight, but when it creeps up due to the work ethic declining, it's a major red flag. Top it off with his attitude, and i'm surprised Boston didn't completely destroy him.

With that said - I can't even begin to decide what is more impressive...the scoreless inning or the stolen base. He runs like Rusty Staub missing a foot.

Sandoval is a bench player now with the Giants.  He's popular in the area and playing better than he was in Boston because he's more comfortable, but he is far from the star he was.  He's batting .262 with 3 homers and 9 RBIs in limited at-bats this year, and is valuable mostly as a pinch hitter for the pitcher in the NL.

What base did Mathewson steal? Panda stole third. He is basically a free player for the Giants since the Redsox are still paying his salary.

I tuned in late and saw Pablo on the mound and legit almost shit my pants. I just couldn't believe Pablo was fuckin' on the mound. Of course, as usual, the Giants were getting their asses kicked, so when he was pulled after 1, I shut the tv off and went to bed.

On Sunday the Giant's promotion is  "Let Pablo Pitch Bobblehead day". I'm going to have to get one.So far in his career(2 innings) he has yet to give up a hit or a walk.  hahah
