Thought it was a pretty good '80s style brawl.  Kerry famously was so fucked up that he cut himself before the match even started, so there was blood right away.  Lawler worked by himself and did a good job.  A typical screwy finish kills it, but that was standard for these types of matches.

3.5 snowflakes, the fuck finish costs it at least a half. Liked the build to the match.

I really enjoyed the build up to Super Clash III, but the PPV that night was at a 10,000 or so capacity arena with 2,000 fans there tops. The lack of atmosphere took me out of the show well before this bout took place. The finish was meant to set up a rematch and protect Kerry from doing a high profile job, but on the night it didn't feel like the way to go.

It's been discussed ad nauseum over the years, but hosting a title unification match in Chicago between two champions who virtually never wrestled in Chicago was one of the worst decisions that has ever been promotionally made in wrestling history. I understand the AWA was being presented as a national product, and was to some extent thanks to ESPN, but at the end of the day this was a very regional battle between Dallas and Memphis.  Chicago didn't care, and many AWA fans didn't care.  Verne saw this as the beginning of some sort of renaissance for the AWA, when in reality it was the last gasp of the territories.

I think it was the last great AWA World Title match that was witnessed by a large audience and I give 92.8 percent of the credit to Jerry Lawler.

Plus, they basically just copied the Flair vs. Luger Bash finish from 6 months prior, despite that finish getting over like a fart in church for Crockett. I hated Lawler at this time, I thought he was a joke. I grew to respect him more later, especially his promos.
