I had heard about that but had never seen it. Very cool. Somewhat exposing of the business in the sense that the movements were not smooth like on a pro match, and a hamerlock sub never happened even back then. But still cool nonetheless.

But still cool nonetheless.A wrestler puts a hammerlock on a non-wrestler, I guarantee it's a submission 19 times out of 20.  Unless you are a muscular guy that has been trained in some sort of martial art that will allow you to understand how to break a hammerlock, you are going down.  They are painful as all hell when put on properly and I would not be surprised if Billy Robinson was laying it in just hard enough to make him know what he got himself into.  I totally buy this match.

No, no, I get that. What I meant was the hammerlock was not a sub in the pro game in the 70s is all. We all know a real one will hurt you. But in a regular match it was basically a nothing hold.

They called it a hammerlock but it was a double wristlock aka the kimura as explained somewhere, perhaps in the comments section which rarely produces anything helpful. The fact it made a novice submit when it wasn't used then with anything more than a transition underscored why the pros were considered pros in the first place. The channel 12 cronies calling the match had no clue; they thought Robinson suddenly pinned Luck.
