So Raw started another horrible segment where they will strap someone into an “electric chair” every week and have fans ask them questions. The first guest was Sami Zayn. So obviously this was meant to get us to think that a fan would ask about AEW, but they didn’t and it was a painfully boring 5 minute segment of Zayn insulting the fans. At the very end, they threw in the swerve and Zayn said, “You guys could’ve asked me about anything.  You could’ve asked me about AEW.”  This got a big reaction from the crowd but host Corey Graves sorta talked over it and then Seth Rollins’ music hit and he ran in. So it was a lame attempt at addressing the elephant in the room and making it look unscripted but I really have no idea what it was supposed to accomplish, especially the way it was done.

WWE can't do anything right anymore. I predict Vince will let HHH and Stephanie take over WWE in 6 months, as Vince runs the XFL come February. I also predict when the XFL folds after season #1, that Vince will try to reclaim his spot as CEO of WWE, and that's when I honestly think that HHH, Stephanie, and the top shareholders tell Vince, "Thanks, but no thanks, Vince!" No disrespect to VKM, but he's been Verne Gagne for 10 years now.

It’s amazing that with the amount of talent the E has they just can’t make it work. I watched up until the Cesaro v Ricochet match and was underwhelmed. I think monthly “PPV’s” are killing them; they are in this perpetual state of ultra hype thus forcing everything to be bigger than the previous month. I feel like at any moment they are going to start talking like Tony Schiavone and calling every moment the biggest one in our great sport or whatever he said.

I agree. I understand why WWE does monthly ppvs, especially with the Network needing programming, but that formula does make the tv's come off as cheap infomercials sometimes. I'd like to see AEW do 9 ppvs per year or less (and concentrate on episodic TV like mid 1980's Mid-South or mid 1990's ECW), but I'm not holding my breath on that.

Did Rick Steiner have to belly to belly suplex Abdullah the Butcher OUT of the Chair of Horrors after 28 years?

So later on in the show Shane comes out with McIntyre to wrestle Roman Reigns' cousin or somebody.  During the match, I believe I heard the fans chanting "This is awful."  This is after a promo where Shane was busting on Afa and Sika.

Also, it appears the feud between Miz and Shane seems to have ended, with Shane going over.

Unless you watched it live, you'll never see that Zayn AEW reference on an official WWE version of the show. It's been edited out of international replays and the Hulu version.

This is such a poor attempt to generate buzz.  Imagine that, WWE piggy-backing off of an upstart with 1 show off of their belt to try to create...something.  Obviously the entire purpose of the segment was to drop the AEW line, and now they are trying to create more fake controversy by editing it out.

I actually have 2 theories as to how that segment was supposed to go down:

1) The entire thing was scripted and went off as planned, with fan plants being used, or at least their questions pre-screened.

2) They were HOPING that a fan would be a smartass and ask about AEW, and then they didn't!  So Zayn had to drop the line in at the end, making it more awkward.

The whole thing was embarrassing to WWE if you ask me.

That segment was atrocious and the fact that a member of the McMahon family (the most popular one at that) got shit on makes me wonder if someone will finally take notice.  You can tell even the non-smart fans are starting to get a little impatient live.  There's always pockets of smart fans trying to be heard, but now you're seeing the non-smart fans that are just trying to have fun verbally letting WWE know that these shows suck.

Lance Anoia is a legit prospect who just won the ECWA Super 8 Tournament and had received several WWE try-outs in the past.  He is Samu's son, so I don't know what that makes him to Roman but they're really related.  He's wrestling for MLW and I was under the impression that they had him under contract, but between this and all the MLW guys who showed up in AEW, I have to wonder if an MLW contract means anything at all.

Anyway, there was a way to do that match properly to generate the heat they wanted.  And they fucked it all up.  Lance needed to be kicking Shane's ass and then have McIntyre screw him.  Then Roman runs in during the post-match 2-on-1 beatdown.  Instead, they have McIntyre obliterate the kid before the match (the whole time Roman is presumably backstage watching this and doing nothing), but then the kid fights back and Shane pretty much takes him out clean and quick after that.  I often can't figure out if the McMahons are undone by their own egos or if they genuinely don't know how to book anymore.  Considering how badly they screw up segments that they aren't even involved in, I really think it's the latter.

There's also simple production laziness.  When Shane is talking about the Wild Samoans, how about a brief video package or at least a fucking still picture of them to give the 95% of the crowd who has no idea who they are the slightest reason to care?  This is stuff that WWE would've been all over in 1998.  I really think they're so over-extended that they don't have time to plan anything out anymore and they're very WCW in their approach now, and it shows.

The whole thing led to a Wrestling 101 angle that is almost impossible to screw up turning into an awful segment.  There was nothing wrong with the pitch, but the execution was atrocious.  And it doesn't help that Shane looks like he's going to have a heart attack in every match now, even the 3-minute ones.  He really needs to get out of the ring before he kills himself.  The dude turns purple just getting into the ring now.  But that's a different story.

rossi, you are forgetting that Shane McMahon is the best wrestler in the world. He proved that by winning the tournament.

[genealogy nerd]Samu is Afa's son, and Roman is Sika's son, so Roman and Samu are first cousins, and Samu's son (Lance Anoa'i) is Roman's first cousin once removed.[/genealogy nerd]

But you're right Rossi.  Shane is almost 50 years old, and looks like he's taking a equivalent to ripped fuel or some other ephedrine supplement that is about to give him a heart attack anytime he does moderate cardio in the ring.  Even his entrance dancing seems to blow him up.

What gets me was this was Miz's chance to get a face push to the top, but instead he puts over the 50 year old non-wrestler who goes up the card to work with Roman.

Soon, Vince will think it is a good idea to have Shane tap out dancing Brock Lesnar with his new submission hold and take the Money in the Bank briefcase, which he can cash in on B+ player Kofi Kingston.  You know, Kofi, who is the most over guy on the roster right now.

Shane as WWE champion.  That equals ratings.  That equals Vince Russo WCW logic.

According to Mike Johnson, the answer is 3) Zayn did it on his own.

I don't believe that.  They're working the smarks for attention.  It's possible that Zayn just wants to get fired, but I'm not buying it.

I have to admit, I enjoyed the Sami Zayn segment and was howling with laughter through out most of it. The girl housing him with the "Duh" comment and his reaction just floored me. As for him mentioning AEW on his own, no way. That was a troll comment approved and scripted by the WWE in order to get people talking, and it worked.
