I watched this doc over the weekend and it was not at all what I expected.  Obviously Moore is Moore and he makes slick documentaries that are highly slanted.  I expected a 2-hour hit piece on Trump, which is basically what the movie is marketed as.

You get that for the first half hour, but I was pretty shocked that there's about an hour in the middle dedicated solely to trashing the liberal establishment in a way that I really have never seen before from one of their own.  This was a brutal takedown of Pelosi, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and even Obama that was far beyond what FOX News could have done.  They're pretty much blamed for the rise of Trumpism through their incompetence, greed, and neglect of the American public.

There really is no stone left unturned in bashing them on every point dating back to the '90s with Clinton's "3 strikes" mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines and "Don't Ask Don't Tell".  This is followed up by a pretty in-depth look at the DNC and the "super delegates" screwing over Bernie as Hillary is shown to be nothing short of a dithering idiot.  There's also a hidden microphone as a local Democratic candidate is basically sabotaged and told to drop out by the establishment, which leads to a bit on AOC bucking the system and beating Hillary's cronies.  Pelosi and Schumer are then brutalized at length.

But perhaps the main event is Moore going to Flint, which is of course his bread and butter.  They set it up as the evil Republican Rick Snyder poisoning the drinking water for his own financial gain. lying to the people on Michigan, and then drinking some water in a publicity stunt.  This is juxtaposed with heroic soaring music as Obama heads to town to save the day.  Very eye-rolling stuff.  But it turns into a set-up as Obama meets the joyous people of Flint and tells them the same lies, says the water is now safe, and does the same publicity stunt of drinking the water.  This is followed by shocked silence and a screeching end to the music and an interview with a black woman who says, "He came in as my President but he wasn't my President anymore after he left."  Wow!  And he blames this stunt on Hillary losing Michigan when Obama supporters either stayed home or outright voted for Trump.

Anyway, we go back to more Trump-bashing, which is too easy, and Moore gets sidetracked by Parkland because he's Moore, but we get the conclusion piece showing rampant corruption on both sides and basically calling for a (presumably gun-free) revolution.  Not exactly what I expected from him.  Of course no conservative actually watched the movie (all the Netflix reviews are typical rants from Trumpsters) but I thought this was a really well-rounded piece and more than his usual drivel.

Even though I can't stand this fat slob, like Maher, I have a level of respect for him. Both of these in your face libs have some sort of principle. They're not afraid to bash their fellow liberals if warranted. I truly believe Moore's best doc was Roger and Me. This is probably because I'm a Rust Belt dweller and he resonated with me. Some of his other ones were pretty good, but this last one sucked. There were way too many topics for one documentary. But yeah, he bashed the Dems just as bad as he bashed Trump.

Definitely too many topics.  It felt crammed with lots of liberal talking points that had nothing to do with the main theme of the movie.  But when he was focused, it was very good.

His worst movie IMO was the healthcare one where he did the stunt of going to Castro's personal hospital in Cuba and trying to make the case that you were better off getting sick there than in America.  That was just filled with stunt after stunt and I wondered if he even remembered how to make a documentary.  But this was a good step back for him.  "Roger and Me" and "Fahrenheit 9/11" were really strong too.

I watched it, and after you sort through the overdramatic theatrics Moore does in every one of his films, it does a decent job of spotlighting the douchery of the Dems and assholery of the Trump administration.

He only touched on West Virginia in terms of the Dem primary being rigged. He could've made the same argument for Indiana, Michigan, New Hampshire.

Snyder is an evil fuck. I thought that before I saw this, and the way he's portrayed here just makes me want to punch him in the face even more.

I just saw it last night. He did go after the Dems pretty hard all things considered. I have to say he is the second significant voice on that side to call out their bullshit. Maher is the other one. He correctly states that the Dems need to stop being overly sensitive to everything and demanding apologies for non-PC behavior. No doubt they lose votes because of it. He is also tired of his own studio, "woke" audience. Says he prefers to do gigs in places like Tulsa where the liberals are actually in touch with reality.

Some of the ones I run into are flat out hysterical.

If you read Bill Maher's Facebook page, it is hilarious and frightening.  He's called everything from a Trump plant to Satan.  And he's one of their own.

The left gets caught up in a dispute about a Baker not serving a gay couple.  I am not for discrimination but  they are so loud about it that many old school Dems like the ones in OH and parts of PA say, "they don't fight for us" and that led to votes for Trump.  They STILL cannot see that.  I have no idea if Trump will win or not since it is far away but the Dems are setting him up - again.

I met Moore at a coffee shop. He's a really likable guy. I like his movies but I don't agree with some of what he has to say in them. I do like that he calls out both sides, and he predicted that Trump would win because so many disenfranchised working class people were going to vote for him as a fuck you to the political establishment.

Having said all of this, the right lives in a fantasy as well.  Some thought they would keep the House.  No chance.  None.  Both sides really are strange right now.  You have a big gov guy like Trump with a dark vision and a socialist like Sanders who thinks the answer is to make everything free.  It used to be these types were the fringe element.  No more.

There are 3 major reason these candidates are not fringe anymore:
1.  Clinton "working" with Republicans in the late 90s, de-regulating the financial sector (which was continued by Bush in the 2000s).
2.  The Tea Party pushing the R's far right, and left's retaliation in response.
3.  The Citizen's United decision ensures money is never our of politics, leading to the support of grass-roots populists candidates.

The Tea Party actually had the opposite agenda of the far-rght Trumptards though, Trump just easily co-opted them (except for Justin Amash) because they were spineless.
