That was never going to happen. Way too much national TV to make a giant seem special. Andre would be considered the drizzling shits if you saw him 3 times a week for 20 years. The fact that Show still has a job and isn’t completely hated by all shows you how good he was.
Agreed.  Big Show was better than Andre in every aspect. Almost just as big, more athletic, and can cut a coherent promo....but with the overexpose he had no mystique.

Tony Atlas - I think his drug addiction really prevented him from becoming a bigger name in wrestling. He is one of the few wrestlers who press slammed Hogan in the 80s and got a clean win over him. The "Soul Patrol" tag team with Rocky Johnson captured the WWF tag team championship but the friction between the two (due to drug use?) caused the team to dissolve quickly despite its popularity with the fans. I assume that promoters may have been leery of giving him a big push due to his drug use as well (don't want your champion making headlines due to a drug bust, etc)

Tommy Rich - His career really seemed to fizzle out after his feud with Buzz Sawyer ended. As many others have said, his physique didn't keep up with the more athletic / muscular look that evolved over the years

Chris Benoit - I think that he could have been an even bigger star over time. Now instead of people talking about his wrestling ability and achievements, they only seem to focus on his tragic ending

I don't watch Benoit matches anymore. I cannot and refuse to get around what he did to his wife and child. It was one of the worst things. Words don't do it justice. He does not exist on my radar anymore..

He was mentally ill. That wasn't Chris Benoit acting.

I think he was in his right mind enough to know what he did was wrong. That's why he killed himself. He lost it and killed Nancy and knew what he was doing when he killed his kid. He knew enough to text to people.

Art Barr. He could have been a legend and Hall of Famer. But he decided to forcibly fuck a rat in the arena that was underage. Then he did enough drugs to die while napping with his kid.

Austin Idol. Had the look, could do promos, could work heel or face...but would get pissed and take off from territories in the middle of pushes.

I had always heard he didn't like to fly as well. He had a great look and gimmick but I found him boring in the ring.

Wasn’t he in that plane crash with Gary Hart and Bobby Shane?

Yup.

As far as Benoit, fuck that guy. We will never know for sure so all we can do is speculate. My speculation is that he terrorized Nancy and smacked her around well before and leading up to her death. I think they got in a fight that day and he went too far in a rage and killed her. Then went off the rails after that because he couldn't man up and face the consequences that would come with him being charged with killing his wife and possibly going to jail for the rest of his life. Maybe his plan was to try and cover it up, but the kid saw him do it....Killed his kid. Spent the next day or whatever the timeline is trying to come up with a plan. Finally realized the gravity of the situation and came to the conclusion that there was no way to get out of the mess he created...So he offed himself.

The tl;dr is simply...Chris Benoit was a miserable human being and knew what the fuck he was doing that weekend.

I take it you've never had to deal with mental health breakdowns...IIRC Biff Wellington had died that week, Eddy Guerrero not long before. On top of concussive dementia, those factors almost certainly pushed him into being out of control of his actions.

Trust me, I am WAY too familiar with mental health breakdowns and have someone very close to me that struggles with mental illness.

There is no doubt that he had a mental health breakdown, but let's not pretend that Benoit didn't have a very dark side to him long before any of this happened. Sure there are tons of stories about how he was such a nice guy, but there are some shitty stories out there too. Plus there are the past allegations of domestic abuse, which I tend to believe after what he ended up doing.

John Nord had a lot of size with speed and agility to go with it. He added some decent charisma to the package. However, between not honing his craft in the ring and getting caught up in making Bruiser Brody demands about not jobbing and money without having earned the juice to play those games, he ended up with his Mid-South and AWA runs, his Berzerker WWF run, and his late 1990s WCW stint without a push as the sum of what could have been a much more promising career. He couldn’t even get a sustained All Japan or New Japan run going circa 1993-97 when either would have seemed like a natural fit considering some of the guys who got spots over there at that time.
