I remember being confused by the feud when I first came across it as a kid, and not thinking that Rose had any credibility or belonged here.  I also can't recall the matches being very good compared to what the Express had done with the R'n'R Express and The Fantastics.  Even with Paul E's involvement, I didn't like this.

I was aware of the OME from their time in the AWA. Apparently they were only brought in because Tully and Arn left and the ME needed another team to work with. When Jim Crockett took the book from Dusty he felt the same way about Rose and booked him to lose the fall in the loser leaves NWA match at Chi Town Rumble. Condrey walked out on the promotion again and was replaced in the match by Jack Victory.

Post PPV Victory was aligned with Paul E doing the Secret Service gimmick and Rose returned for a time as a babyface. The ME and Corny were going to leave because new booker George Scott allegedly didn't know what to do with them. But when he was fired they ended up staying. They sat out for a couple of months to refresh and took some outside bookings in the interim.

This was awful but led to Jack Victory getting a spot in ECW more than a decade later where he did almost nothing and got paid (assuming the checks didn't bounce).  Paul E. took care of a few guys from the territory days like that, and always spoke highly of Victory from their time together here.

On the NWA Main Event the weekend after the Chi-Town Rumble PPV, Jim Ross and Paul E. Dangerously hosted the wraparound segments between matches from the WTBS studio set minus any audience. When the loser leaves town match at the PPV came up, JR asked Paul what would now become of Randy Rose. Paul emphatically said that he was staying and Randy was going because Randy had a job to do and he did that job. JR noted that Randy was out of a job now and Paul showed no concern. JR followed up that the guy had a family to feed. Paul noted that he'd given him some money to make it to the end of the month. The show aired on 2/26/89, so JR pointed out that the month was almost over, prompting Paul to give the biggest "I don't care" grin. These two always had great chemistry and this was sort of a Gorilla Monsoon/Bobby Heenan moment for them.

I loved the angle. The blowoff was awful though.
