Vince finally took a few hours off writing shitty television and came up with the names of his soon to be defunct football league:

I'm still shocked that Dallas got a franchise instead of San Antonio considering nobody in Dallas is going to watch football unless it's the Cowboys. Also surprised there's no team in SF. With the Niners moving out of the City, and the fact that the SF Demons drew the highest live attendance of any XFL team in 2001, you'd think they would of gotten a franchise. I'm stuck without a team to root for...so far at least.

The problem with having a team in San Francisco would be finding a place to play. The SF team in the old XFL actually drew pretty well playing at Oracle Park, but the Giants might be less interested in having tenants and the Raiders' attempt at just investigating playing there got shot down big time although there were some deep political ramifications that contributed to that.

As far as Dallas goes, I think it was a matter of wanting to be in a big market even though any minor league or NFL rival seems to always have had a team at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Perhaps the idea is the fans in Dallas are football mad enough and Cowboys tickets are expensive enough that this will serve as a way to lure fans.

There seems to be significantly less buzz around the XFL this time, for obvious reasons, and that buzz is already shrinking since the announcement was first made. I could see some of these teams playing to 3,000 fans in a 60,000 seat stadium by Week 2.

I think that Charlie Ebersol absolutely torched any possibility of the XFL being successful with the product he put out there with the AAFwhatever it was called. They didn't have the money to perform as a football league, and by quitting less than half way through season one, it's going to keep a lot of people from giving two shits about the XFL. I truly and honestly believe that any sort of minor league football they come up with has to have some base in the mid markets, and not necessarily major markets. As was said above, Dallas doesn't have the desire to support this, but San Antonio would. Even in the Northeast - why put a team in New York Metro when the only "minor league" team to ever draw anything at all was the NJ Generals - and they were not close to selling out Giants Stadium with players like Herschel, Sipe, and Flutie. There needs to be teams in towns that have wanted pro sports for awhile, and it's gotten admittedly tougher since the NFL has filled in gaps in places like Charlotte, Jacksonville, Nashville, and replacements in Baltimore, Cleveland, and Houston. But you can't tell me that there isn't a market for pro football in a place like Virginia, where it's not an easy drive to either DC or Charlotte from a good chunk of the state. Or even in a place like Milwaukee where people go their entire lives without having the opportunity to be Packers ticket holders.

New York has a team because the TV networks, sponsors, and marketing partners demand it. Having a New York team is also important for getting major media attention.

Dallas Queer Beaters
Houston Roughnecks
Los Angeles Jews
New York Jews
St. Louis Cardinals
Seattle Douchbags
Tampa Bay Retired Rasslers
DC Niggaskins (Any publicity is good publicity, pal!)

I would totally buy as much New York Jews merch as ol’ Vince could’ve put out. Dallas Queer Beaters would also sell me a T-Shirt and if the logo was cool enough also a mini helmet.

"Hey, new football league! Get ready for another San Antonio football team future trivia question!"

They barely missed being included in the UFL, but did field an AAF team, recently. They had teams in the WLAF, CFL, Arena League, 70's WFL.. plus a few more I'm forgetting. Along with the belief that Red McCombs would relocate the Vikings there. So yeah, I'm shocked that there's no San Antonio team.

I will say that these new XFL team names seem a little more "conservative" when compared to the 2001 version. Memphis ManiaX!

I think the Giants would be more than welcome to get an XFL team there. They own the Oracle Park now and it will be all income. There is always something happening at Levi Stadium from golfing , soccer,  concerts , Monster trucks, college/high school football etc etc. Oracle Park could do the same for the north bay. Unless they already have it booked up I see a lost opportunity there.

How could you have forgotten the legendary USFL San Antonio Gunslingers? My third favorite USFL team ever behind Oakland and Birmingham. QB  Rick Neuheisel told a great story in the USFL 30 for 30 talking about the players performing a gumball rally driving to pick up their paychecks because they all knew only the first half of the checks would clear. :) One of the coolest pro football nicknames ever imo. Ironically, Neuheisel is the head coach of XFL's Arizona Hotshots (horrible f'n stupid name).
