I was reading this today - PWInsider said that this day in 1986 he won the National title from Tully and I completely forgot about that because he lost the unification match with Nikita less than a month later.  So I'm going down the page and I come across this little tidbit, which made me laugh:
But his retirement was brief and he returned to wrestling the following year. He continued to wrestle into the 1990s mostly for independent promotions throughout the south. In 1993, he teamed with Jim Brunzell and Blackjack Mulligan against Don Muraco, Jimmy Snuka, and Dick Murdoch in a legends match at the inaugural Slamboree: A Legend's Reunion. The following year, he participated in an angle where he and Chief Jay Strongbow supposedly passed the torch to WWF's Tatanka. Had a notable feud on the indie circuit with Ivan Koloff and a series of matches with an unknown wrestler named Mean Marc Ash, which signaled to many long time observers that Wahoo's career was nearly over.

For some fucking reason I watched that shit.
I know I loved to rip Mean Mar Cash, but he fucking sucks as a wrestler.  I actually expected him to be "indy good," but he was indy embarrassing.  Those 4 wrestlers weren't quite Kris Sprules vs. Cage Tyler bad, but they weren't much better.

George South sucks balls and Dark Star was athletic, but he sucked too.  Wahoo was the best worker in the match and he was about 80 and 40 years past his prime, and even he was sloppy & fucked up a hair pull take down.

South blades for no reason in front of a crowd of about 50, and the ref calls a double DQ for no reason.  I assume Wahoo wasn't doing jobs on the indy circuit and Ash probably wouldn't job, so DDQ was the only way, but why have such a fucked up DDQ?  The two guys in the ring were wrestling & the two guy outside were brawling, but nothing DQ worthy.

What a steaming pile of shit.

Mar Ass’s attempts and using the forearms and throwing punches were horrible.
