There's been rumors of an Edge in-ring return ever since he speared Elias a couple of months ago, his first bump in years.  Edge has shot that down and denies that WWE doctors have medically cleared him, although the fact that he bumped shows that something definitely changed in his medical status.  Now, PWInsider reports that Edge is in Pittsburgh today meeting with Dr. Joseph Maroon, so it definitely seems that something is up.

At the same time, Meltzer reports that WWE just gave Edge a huge contract extension, with the price going way up after AEW entered the bidding war.  It seems pretty obvious that Edge used AEW as leverage to squeeze WWE, which is going to become a trend.  It seems unlikely that AEW was going to pay Edge all that money not to wrestle, so my guess is you see him in the ring at WM.

He's also in better shape than when he was juicing with that Florida clinic that got busted and he got his 30 day wellness suspension. Generally speaking, he's got the same shit as what Austin, Angle, and Taz have. Taz didn't get operated on, the others did. Austin could've continued to wrestle with another operation. Angle went until this year. Edge basically only needs to adapt to a style that doesn't have him killing himself in the ring. We are only like two years since there was an angle with him and Christian where the other guys just laying their hands on them caused a lawsuit angle because they were considered permanently disabled. So this should be interesting. And I would bet money that Cody floated a big offer to Edge simply to get him the payday from WWE because you know that Edge if he actually wrestles again won't be anywhere near full time.

I think both Seth Rollins and Edge are good in the ring. The difference is out of the ring. Edge could play a likeable babyface, a goofily obnoxious heel or the ultimate prick heel with equal effectiveness. Seth did good as a heel, but to me doesn't come off well as a babyface. That isn't to say he is insincere or unlikeable, just that he lacks the necessary conviction to draw me in with his words and personality. As a babyface he gets dull. He plays the heel better.

I realized Edge was great in his feud with Kurt Angle.  That's the other thing missing from Rollins, and everyone from this generation.  There's no one to give them the run, no one who beating them means anything, and no one to elevate them with a different style.  Edge went from the TLC guy doing flippety-floppity spots with the Hardys to a real deal main event caliber wrestler thanks to Angle.  Rollins will never have that.

The Edge speculation is in full swing again as some details of his new contract have leaked.  According to "insiders" (whoever they may be) it's at a higher rate with different incentives, and it reads more like an active contract than a legends' contract. Mike Johnson thinks that Edge will be a surprise entrant at the Royal Rumble and Meltzer says there's been talk about a WM match.

Well when asked if he was medically cleared and returning to the ring in 2020, Edge just tweeted this:

"Still not and still not. Period."

He's not going to announce his return to wrestling on Twitter. He'll deny he's returning until the minute that he returns.
