Not a huge baseball fan, but I have been casually following the Astros (mainly because everyone talks about them at work) for a few weeks. Just a few observations.

- Both teams looked like they were having a bunch of fun.

- That one pitcher for the Nationals that holds his glove in front of his face looks funny when he does that.
- Are the Astros in trouble? From what I understand, Cole is their best pitcher and he didn't look so hot last night.

Sean Doolittle is the guy with the glove over his face. Looks more like he should be serving Lattes at Starbucks than playing baseball

I'd say after losing last night with Cole giving up 5 runs, they might be in a bit of trouble. It doesn't get any easier with Verlander vs. Strasburg tonight. That's a pick 'em. Then they have Greinke in Game 3 and he hasn't looked good all postseason, so they really need to win tonight.

Verlander has looked human. He got roughed up a bit against the Yankees. The Nats were on fire before the layoff. If they win tonight, it’s over. They’ll bring Scherzer and Stras back on short rest for Games 4 and 5 after Sanchez pitches in Game 3. Martinez will go for the kill.

Gerritt Cole's a better pitcher than he was with the Pirates (and he was pretty good then), but he reverted to his 2016-2017 tendencies, last night: has trouble pitching with a lead and gives up homers.

I think the Astros win it in 6 games, though. HOU wins tonight, 7-2.

Anybody else catch the brief in-booth mention of Smackdown, last night? You could just sense Joe Buck and John Smoltz cringing as they hyped the "one time only" move of Smackdown to FS1 for Friday. Awkward follow-up ad lib: Smoltz: "do you think they'll come in the booth, if we don't mention this?" Buck: "I hope not.."

Astros a 9 to 5 favorite tonight. Almost 2 to 1.

Frankly I'd take a shot with the dog (Nats) every night they have the pitching to hand with Houston

And both Verlander and Strasburg give up 2 runs apiece in the 1st inning. So much for pitching duels.

I just hope the Nats don't try to use Scherzer in a reliever role any more. He can be a slow starter where he will give up 3-4 runs in the first inning but then be lights out for the rest of the game. I think this was proven against the Cubs in the post season a couple years ago.

Embarrassing performance tonight. Losing the first 2 at home and now having to go back to DC to face Anibal...yeah, not looking good.

This just goes to show how with in a relatively short series you could put the Orioles in against the Astros and they have a chance to win. I'm physically forced to root for Houston because my Texas wife would exact a bloody revenge if I didn't. However, I like the Nats chance from the start. Rendon and Soto are raking and a pitching staff with Scherzer, Strasburg, and Corbin easily match up with Cole, Verlander, and the guy who has mental problems. Go Nats! just please don't tell my wife.

I can't watch baseball with all the junk on the screen during every pitch. Strike box which is inaccurate since each player and their size and stance come into play. The dots showing mph after every pitch.  That's meaningless most of the time since so many pitchers throw over 90 mph anyway.  All of this is garbage you get to see for hundreds of pitches and mostly just distracting. Turns a live game into looking like an XBOX contest.

No issues with any of it on a close replay. That's fine. I've heard comparisons to the NFL using the first down marker line. I find that useful during a broadcast and not distracting.   I can't stand the superimposed stuff on baseball telecasts.

Verlander  has become Clayton Kershaw.
