pwinsider.com

CM Punk's return on WWE Backstage tonight was kept a secret from everyone on camera with the exception of Renee Young as a way to prevent the return from leaking. Obviously, FOX was successful.

PWInsider.com has confirmed that Punk signed a deal with FOX but has not signed anything with World Wrestling Entertainment as of this writing.

The decision to bring Punk on was 100% a FOX call, but we are told that WWE gave the return their personal blessing. The two sides had circled on a deal but it was finally completed within the last few days.

Punk will be appearing regularly on WWE Backstage going forward, but will not be on every week we are told.

The return led to CM Punk's name and WWE Backstage trending on social media.

I do not think it was unintentional that he came out with his head held as high as he possibly could. And while I saw both of his UFC fights and know the kind of shape he got into for them, he looked really REALLY small when he climbed into the ring.

The "premiere" (they had like 30 shows prior but the official, official premiere) episode last week was a ratings disaster with only 500,000 viewers. They needed something to give people a reason to watch the show going forward, but last night probably drew even worse ratings and because this was a surprise they didn't get the audience bump.

I think it's pretty obvious now that Punk is going to wrestle for WWE again, maybe as early as WM. Both sides can say it's a FOX deal all they want, but Punk is back in WWE now.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but my interest in CM Punk has almost completely evaporated. He's been away for so long now, that I don't see him having many more good matches. And good matches are not in short supply in 2019. Maybe he can still cut a good promo, but he doesn't care anymore, so I doubt it. He doesn't follow the product at all. There's a video on the YouTubes where he is giving his opinion on wrestling scenes in movies (The Wrestler, Nacho Libre and GLOW) and when it gets to the AJ Lee scene in Fighting with my Family, he had no idea who Zelina Vega was. Not that she is The Undertaker, but if he was watching even one show a month, he would have known that.

I'd love to be proved wrong.

I don't really think it was a ratings disaster for a fox sports 1 show.

Half a million would have been fantastic, but rossi made a typo and the number was 50,000.

Totally agree.  Fox Sports 1 draws almost nothing - and the cost of ads on FS1 is extremely small.  So a 500k pull may actually make them a bit of money in the long run because they might be able to add a couple of points to the ad costs due to this draw.

Yup, sorry.  I'm not used to typing numbers that low.

Well maybe you can get better with small numbers. Write down the length of your penis ten times.

FS1 was launched a few years ago as Fox Sports' answer to ESPN, but it has never gained traction as a channel sports fans go to reflexively along the lines of ESPN and its sister channels. By that I mean that while SportsCenter isn't the colossus it once was, if you turn on the TV looking for sports highlights, you go to ESPN and that show. FS1's answer to SportsCenter was heavily promoted and was a complete bust that no longer exists. Fans turning on the TV randomly looking for a game, go to ESPN and ESPN2. Fans tend to turn on FS1 only if they are specifically looking for a game that they have a vested interest in seeing such as a match up involving their favorite team or a game between two other teams that impacts their favorite team. The ratings are low and just getting enough people watching for there to be a measurable audience is considered a win for FS1. This is why the rating for SD on FS1 being so low was not a big deal. In comparison to FS1's regular ratings, it was a lot of viewers. WWE Backstage is off to a good enough start. I also agree that CM Punk wrestling in the WWE again is inevitable. For all the talk of him being on the Fox Sports rather than WWE payroll, he is back in the fold for all intents and purposes. It's just a matter of time.

I have no idea what WWE is going to do with Paige for 3 more days, much less 3 more years. And is there a reason why Miz basically doesn't wrestle anymore after being so hot for so long?

There's got to be a reason why Paige's bristols seem to be inflating towards Zeppelin size.

Keep the wrestlers backstage happy, you see how her lips and breast and butt have grown since the tape.....
