'18-'19 POTY, 1st Ballot HOFer
|I like watching SSBG in the ring even if he can’t wrestle. His hammer punches look legit sometimes, he could take and sell a beating, and he bled well. I always liked Dusty too. For a guy his size to move as fast as he did with the strength and balance he had, he probably could’ve played pro football at the time. But I re-watched this match just now. God, does Dusty act like such a pussy or what? I mean, he took the pinfall in the second fall - which was one of the only times I saw him take a pinfall in this era - and it was SO fucking weak. He misses a punch, spins around, and gets caught with a weak ass bearhug and...falls straight backward and gets pinned? Then he comes out of the rest on the offense? And how about maybe losing the friggin’ Brass Knuckles belt to a guy that was available to work the territory at every goddamn show instead of whenever he could make it? I will say this about Dusty, he was working like Andre on meth at the time. He was in Florida, Houston, Georgia, WWWF for MSG shows and a little TV, and he popped in elsewhere - I know sometime around ‘80-‘81 he was doing odd shots with the AWA as well. The man really earned his money, probably making almost as much as the NWA Champ at the time because he was such a draw. It makes sense that he had the two very short runs with the Domed Globe, because it kept his draw very high. But this match? I saw jobbers put more effort into getting SSBG over than Dusty did (not that Graham needed to get over).
