Per PWInsider:
"Several WWE sources have confirmed that the WWE Network has, going forward, suspended all plans for weekly "Hidden Gems" on the company's streaming service.
Over the last year, the Hidden Gems section has featured dark matches from WWF and WWE TV tapings, full specials from Jim Crockett Promotions, the AWA, the WWF and other content from across the spectrum of the tape libraries that WWE owns.  The content would be released every Thursday, something WWE Network has not done in recent weeks.
One WWE source cautioned that while the company is not currently moving forward with the Hidden Gems, that does not mean that older content won't be used in different ways or that the current edict cannot be reversed down the line."

Honestly?  There's no need for me to ever resubscribe now.  I've got everything that I want from that network and without the old stuff there's no reason to care anymore.  I can change my mind if they start putting up weekly TV from the '80s (or earlier), but if they are giving up on Hidden Gems, why on earth would they continue anything older?

Disappointing for sure especially after releasing a large chunk lately that has been in my wheel house. hopefully they use this reallocated time for another vintage task.

I just finished the Survivor Series Showdown from 92 with the recently released unaired matches tacked on in raw form. Very cool to see and for me the time codes and static lines added to the charm.

Extremely disappointing. Hopefully they change their mind down the road or very little of anything I am interested in will ever be more than a clip in a documentary or a wrestler retrospective after they die.

Surely they have to realize how popular this was.

Good to see you back ted. I missed seeing you around here.

I think WWE is making a mistake in holding on to all that old territory footage. They should be releasing it all now while the people who would be interested in that timeframe are still alive.

Generation X, and the baby boomers (who I think makes up the majority of us here at S&W) are probably the last generations of fans who would actually pay to see that old mid 80's and before content. The generations after us will be more nostalgic for the attitude and post WCW eras.

I hate that they seemingly hoard all that old content.

The two or three hundred out of the million and a half subscribers who watched that old shit didn't make it worth their while. Hopefully we'll get alot more original programming like "Making the Next Superstar - Ukraine" or "Natalia's Fashion Show - How to Dress in Accordance to Sharia Law". This will turn on a whole new generation to the WWE Universe so much that in five years, the Super Bowl will be played during halftime of Wrestlemania.

Thanks. Had to re-register after my computer received a virus after it got hacked. Took a while to get back here as Beej must be busy.

That's a disappointment for all of us old school fans. Perhaps they've run out of older material that could be converted over to digital??

I think they have realized how unpopular the Hidden Gems are. There is certainly a very vocal group of Hidden Gems and more broadly, fans of pre-1985 wrestling. But WWE have every viewing statistic they could ever want. If the Hidden Gems aren't bringing in the subscribers versus the cost to produce, then they are going to cut it. I'd put myself in the "fan of Hidden Gems and old school wrestling group" but I don't watch every Hidden Gem. I'll be honest and say that if the match has no commentary, I will probably skip it completely. Also, from comments I read, it seems that the older stuff is very niche, and is subject to a lot (in terms of % of interested viewers) of piracy, account sharing, and binging in free months. I know some people subscribe for a free month, binge, then cancel, then do the same again three months later. WWE won't take that as a success. I suspect that  the group of people complaining is A) not as big as you might think, just very vocal, and B) made up of a good number of people who have contributed little or no money to the Network.

tl;dr - If the old school stuff was popular with paying subscribers, they would be putting more on, not less.

Caveat: If they did a better job with the way they put up the old school stuff, it would have been more successful. Most of the old footage comes with zero context. Introductions and interviews around the old school stuff would have improved the offering by 1000%.

I agree with Kriss. At sad as it is to think this, we probably represent a minority at this point on who would subscribe.

Maybe someone tuning into the gems flips around and finds something newer they watch or like. Those fans won't be around to even do that now, however small the number is.
I mean one match a week even...how hard would that be?
