They didn't give him a chance at all.  Maybe 3 weeks?  And he was pretty good.

PWInsider:

Dio Maddin is officially off the Raw broadcast team and will be returning to the Performance Center.  Samoa Joe will remain the third man in the booth until he is cleared to return to the ring from his broken thumb.  WWE released that information last night on WWE Backstage.  We are told Samoa Joe's excellence as a commentator pretty much made it an easy decision.  Maddin commented on the change:

Matt Riddle moved on to Goldberg so I’ll retire Brock.

That was the big black guy that Lesnar took out?

If so I liked what I heard of him.

I didn't know his name though....Dio Madden?

Whoever came up with that name was obviously listening to the "Last In Line" album on their IPhone, while playing "Madden NFL" on their XBox.

Yes. Maybe Lawler had him fired because he made him look like a midget.

I guess when it came to the pecking order of announcers, Dio was The Last In Line. *Hey-oh*

In the wasteland that is WWE announcers these days, I'd prefer to think of those 3 glorious weeks as a "Rainbow in the Dark".  But now he's "Invisible".

According to Bryan Alvarez, the full story is that Vince and Kevin Dunn thought he sucked. I have no idea why. So they took him off TV with the Lesnar attack to give him a few weeks to be “re-trained” with the intent of him returning in a month or so. After a little bit of that, Dio asked that he just return to the PC so he could wrestle again. So they basically just destroyed his spirit. I can’t imagine how brutal those trainings were.
