Let me add:

Aliens
An American Werewolf in London
Blade Runner
Big Trouble in Little China
The Breakfast Club
Escape From LA
The Evil Dead
First Blood
Heathers
The Princess Bride
RoboCop
The Terminator
Top Gun
Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
The Untouchables

I think you mean Escape from New York.  Escape from LA came out in the 90s.

100% I meant Escape from New York (great Ox Baker cameo). Escape from LA not only came out in the 90s, but it was horrendous.

I think John Hughes's 80's canon rates very highly, but there's one standout and that's Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.  Gut busting humor with a massive heart beating underneath.
Raging Bull
Die Hard
The Empire Strikes Back
Caddyshack
This is Spinal Tap
Ghostbusters

I actually prefer the second half in country due to the gallows humor that's so prevalent and the interactions of Joker with Rafter Man, Cowboy, and Animal Mother.

Someone mentioned The Hitcher earlier so I'll also add Nighthawks to the list. Rutger Hauer was such a great villain.
