Loser gets carried out on a stretcher 'incapacitated'. We'll see.

Don't you just love the ridiculous match stipulations?

A Sicilian Stretcher Match without any Italians in it.
An Indian Strap Match without any Indians in it.
A Texas Death Match that's not in Texas nor has any Texans in it.

At least that ridiculous Diamond Miner's Glove Match in the AWA had the fake South African Diamond Miner Col. DeBeers in it.

So I know you are a few years older than me, but at this time I think you were still a kid, right?  As in, not old enough to drive or pay your own money to see.  So now I ask you, was this match the draw for you, like “I have to go see Backlund vs Graham”?  Or were you just all in on the WWWF being at the Spectrum?  I ask because when I was a kid, I would’ve killed to go to MSG and see a show.  My dad wouldn’t go anywhere near NYC unless he was taking my mom to or from the airport.

What a bullshit finish! Graham was reaching for the bottom rope and the refs just dumped him to the floor! He then got up to his feet - so much for being unconscious!!!

Backlund with a nice blade job; Skaaland with a really weak transfer of the blade, right on camera. As always, SSBG with the “proverbial crimson mask”. And you gotta love Philly - he got as many cheers as Bobby B. Dick Graham was trying to say that he got a mix of boos and cheers, which I give him credit for acknowledging, but I didn’t hear any boos at all.

Don't remember who else was on the show. Dusty, Andre and Bruno were 'we have to go'

Probably went bc the feeling in the crowd and with my uncle was that there was NO WAY Backlund was winning this type of match. We were either going to see a title change or see the legendary Superstar Billy Graham beaten to a pulp and taken out on a stretcher.

Got neither.

I saw these two Backlund-Graham rematches and my 13 yr old self was exhausted from the excitement, especially my first cage match.
Their rematches are highly underrated as only two are preserved (the stretcher match above and a Japanese TV version of the MSG steel cage match.

There IS Rocky Raymond footage of both of these Boston matches somewhere

WWWF @ Boston, MA - Boston Garden - July 15, 1978
Jim Ray defeated Tony Russo
Baron Mikel Scicluna fought Johnny Rodz to a double count-out
Spiros Arion defeated Johnny Rivera
Dino Bravo defeated Butcher Vachon
Chief Jay Strongbow defeated Luke Graham via count-out
WWWF Tag Team Champions the Yukon Lumberjacks defeated Tony Garea & Gorilla Monsoon in a Best 2 out of 3 falls match, 2-1
Superstar Billy Graham defeated WWWF World Champion Bob Backlund via count-out after the two brawled on the floor

WWWF @ Boston, MA - Boston Garden - August 5, 1978
Johnny Rodz defeated Jim Ray
Luke Graham fought Tony Garea to a double count-out
WWWF Tag Team Champions the Yukon Lumberjacks defeated Dino Bravo & Dominic DeNucci
Chief Jay Strongbow & Haystacks Calhoun defeated Tony Russo & Butcher Vachon
Victor Rivera defeated Jose Estrada
Spiros Arion defeated SD Jones
Ivan Putski defeated George Steele via disqualification
WWWF World Champion Bob Backlund defeated Superstar Billy Graham in a steel cage match by escaping the cage after the challenger's foot became entagled in the cage

Those were the lamest chair shots you'll ever see.

Depends on your version of 'working'

Wrestling technique? Nah.

Selling? Making the crowd think the midcard good guy (Garea, Maivia)  had a chance to pull off the upset? Best in the business.

I agree 100%.  Superstar sucked as a “wrestling machine”.  But on the mic?  Nobody was better.  The look?  Nobody was better.  Selling and taking an incredibly convincing beating?  Nobody was better.  He was Waaay ahead of his time, and if he started in ‘79 instead of ‘69, somebody would’ve taught him a little more wrestling than just the basics and power moves.  He also would’ve gotten a better quality of steroids and not been completely shot at 42.

Another Graham strength.

He's wrestling (Backlund, Bruno, Dusty, etc) at an upcoming show

Interview: He tells you how the stipulations of the upcoming match work to his advantage and this is the last time you'll ever see (Backlund, Bruno, Dusty)

He sold tickets.

Dusty vs. George woulda been awesome, especially in Philly. I was born 15 years too late.
