As the title of this topic suggests, I'm attempting to make a list of which countries have known professional wrestling footage from before the year 1970. I'll be using this post to list every country I come across where footage is known to exist so it's easier for those interested to locate them. Anytime anything new is added I'll also leave a reply for the same reason. Below is a list of the countries that I know for sure have some existing footage. Next to each one, as a reference guide, I've written in bold the kind of footage that is available. Also above the list is a "key" explaining the differences between each type of footage:

Key

- filmreel = footage recorded on film with no obvious edits.
- filmreel clips = highlights recorded on film with sound.
- silent filmreel = footage recorded on film with no obvious edits apart from sound.
- silent filmreel clips = highlights recorded on film with no sound.
- newsreel clips = news highlights recorded on film with sound.
- newsreel clips with subtitles = news highlights recorded on film with sound and subtitles.
- silent newsreel clips = news highlights recorded on film with no sound.
- silent newsreel clips with subtitles = news highlights recorded on film with no sound but with subtitles.
- television = broadcast television footage.
- television clips = edited broadcast television footage.

List Of Countries With Known Pre-1970 Pro-Wrestling Footage

- Argentina (newsreel clips / newsreel clips with subtitles / silent newsreel clips with subtitles).
- Australia (filmreel clips / silent filmreel clips / newsreel clips / silent newsreel clips / television).
- Austria (newsreel clips).
- Belgium.
- Bolivia.
- Brazil (newsreel clips).
- Canada (filmreel clips / silent filmreel clips / television).
- Colombia.
- Czechoslovakia.
- Denmark.
- Finland.
- France.
- Germany.
- Greece.
- Ireland.
- Italy.
- Japan.
- Mexico.
- New Zealand.
- Rhodesia.
- Russia.
- South Africa.
- Spain.
- Switzerland.
- United Kingdom.
- United States.

If anyone knows of any countries or any available footage I'm missing from the list then please let me know!

Pretty much most of mainland Europe. Spain, Italy and Greece all had some wrestling scene, while Austria was always connected to the German scene, and there was also wrestling in Belgium and the Netherlands. The German scene also extended into Hungary, Romanian and Russia. The German scene was the month-long tournament set-up.

Of course, the UK scene also spilled over into Ireland.

Indiana and Pakistan also had pro wrestling, as did South Africa and probably Nigeria.

South Korea as well.

In the Caribbean, the Puerto Rico/Florida scene extended into Cuba, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic and Trinidad & Tobago.

Does anyone have the last Cuba result with Americans on it and is there any type of scene in Cuba or has there been since the embargo?

Add Venezuela in there. Sammartino appeared there twice and when I was doing research I verified both dates.

Sometime in 1958 Mildred Burke beat Lily Mae Provo and Carole Kaye & Kathleen Wimbley beat Mary Hillis & Phyllis Hoffman. Whether this was the last card or not I can't say but it would be close to the end.

Thanks for all your help with this everyone!

Does anyone know if there is any known pre-1970 Brazilian footage out there?

Now that's an interesting question. Did Russia have pro wrestling pre-Czar, Communist years, post-Communism. I don't remember coming across or seeing any results or film clips. Of course they were busy de-populating through pograms and World Wars throughout the 20th century but still an interesting question methinks.

This is the only pre-1970 Russian pro-wrestling footage I've found so far:

I wasn't sure which forum was the right place for it, as in I wanted to make sure it was read by those who would be able to contribute, next time I'll ask a moderator.
