Who was the WWF TV guy who wasn't smartened up to the business?

I don't remember if he did interviews or called matches.

Mooney said he wasn't?

I'm not sure I believe that.

The poster child if there ever was one.

Mooney definitely was.  Bartlett was an outsider who basically mocked the business on air, but it's not like he thought it was real.  I couldn't tell what Art Donovan's deal was but man that was a brutal 3 hours.  I don't know which token black guy you mean.

Kal Rudman was a lousy wrestling announcer, but there is no way he wasn't hip to the business.

If Sean Mooney said he wasn't smartened up, he clearly was joking.

Art Donovan's inclusion in the 1994 King of the Ring broadcast team was a well intended idea that didn't work. Art was a defensive lineman for the Baltimore Colts during their glory days of the 1950s and early 1960s, getting All Pro honors several times and later making the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He was from the Bronx and had a thick New York accent. After retiring, he became a popular figure on the after dinner speaker circuit because he'd tell these wacky and amusing stories from his football days, not to mention the fact that he was in the Marines during World War II and fought at Iwo Jima. He also put out a well received autobiography, was a regular talking head in the NFL Films productions, and was a frequent guest of Johnny Carson and especially David Letterman in the NBC days.

Donovan was very much beloved in Baltimore and was known as being a funny guy, so someone in the WWF got the idea of using him as a guest commentator. The problem was Donovan knew nothing about pro wrestling and the WWF storylines and because of the format wasn't in a position to tell his funny stories from the old days of football. He probably wasn't smartened up and it made a bad situation worse. It's kind of sad that to a lot of people he's more known for that PPV than the rest of his life. It was an impossible situation that he should never have been placed in.

Mooney took bumps before he got his WWF gig. He definitely was in on things.

On the head would be my guess.

I was thinking it was Kal Rudman. I'm watching a show from the Spectrum and the way he reacts when Martel, Garea, & Atlas walk past him to the ring is almost like a fan meeting a pro athlete at a bar.
