The most anticipated Super Bowl ad of the year was to be the murder mystery saga of Mr. Peanut's death.  Planters had already started a heavy ad campaign around this in the past few weeks, with its culmination coming in several commercials during the Super Bowl.  But in the wake of Kobe Bryant's death, Planters has cancelled the campaign due to "Sensitivity concerns".

Approximately 150,000 people die every day, but these guys are shocked that someone died in all of January.  If it was another of the other billion viewers who have lost someone recently, fuck them.  But a celebrity not even involved in football dies, and we can no longer mention death.

No, they just said it wouldn't be sensitive in light of his death.

Now, if it was a commercial for watermelons I could maybe see their point of view. But this?

btw, canceling this ad is asinine..I love how they're afraid people on Sunday who are partying and boozing it up like a motherfucker over a football game will be like "OMG, this is just insensitive..."

I'm going the exact opposite - I think it's great that they are canceling that ad. Because Mr. Peanut should never die! And murdered?!?! There shouldn't ever be an ad campaign that centers around murder - even if it's a joke. How this relates to Kobe is ridiculous, because Kobe wasn't murdered. Unless Iran shot down his copter, which I'm sure somebody will say is a conspiracy theory.

Fuckers. Now I'm gonna eat generic peanuts from CVS. Mr Peanut should NEVER die. Neither should Boo Berry, but he's on death's door it seems...

There was a Robin Williams film marathon the weekend after 9/11 and I saw some network played The World According to Garp with a scene of Garp flying a plane into a residential home. I was surprised because someone could have then viewed it as insensitive since it was played for humor.

Sensitivity was not yet a societal disease on the level it is now back then.

Like in 2001 sensitivity was equal to a bad flu bug, whereas in 2020 it's like the hunta virus. Something like that.

Tons of shit involving the Towers got Benoit'ed in the weeks and months following 9/11. They got digitally edited out of almost everything. So I disagree that we weren't huge pussies even 20 years ago.
