We know Trump’s a clown but your team demanding new emissions testing and massive funding for the Endowment of the Arts, amongst hundreds of other things, is holding the country hostage when most people just need relief. You know it’s wrong and I don’t want to hear whataboutism bullshit about the Republicans.  The Democrats are being terrible here and people will remember this in November. And not just Republicans. This is swinging people over. Pelosi proves once again that she can’t even win a compassion contest against Trump. How is that possible?  And Biden’s thoughts in this are...who knows?  He disappeared. For his sake he better die of Coronavirus because no one will ever let him live this down if he’s still alive. His reputation can only be saved if he dies at this point. Then someone else can take his place and try to get sympathy votes I guess.
You know the Dems have Biden stored away in some bunker to keep him safe from the virus until the all clear sign is given and they can trot him out onto the campaign trail again.

Then he needs to be ALL OVER the Internet, giving speeches 3 times a day and commenting on all the latest developments.  He can't just disappear.  He should be having livestreamed Skype calls with effected workers, after someone explains to him what a livestreamed Skype call is ("It's like the magic version of being there Joe, except you won't be able to sniff anyone's hair").  It's not that hard to come up with a strategy to keep him visible.  The only one who has handled this situation worse is Vince, and they're both old and out of touch.  If he's not dying, then they couldn't possibly do a better job of making you think he was.  Or worse, that he just doesn't give a fuck about anyone but himself.

Ooof.  Upon further review, this may not be the best strategy.  The guy's clearly not all there.

(And how embarrassing is that female host on MSNBC?  Gushing and gurning over a man who's having trouble stringing a cogent thought together.)

When even Shaun King gives up on you and tells you to go back into hiding, you’ve already lost.

Italy now has 7,503 deaths from COVID-19. I don’t care about preexisting conditions that is a lot of people.

25,000 Italians died from the flu during the winter of '16-'17.  How often were you made aware of that at the time?

I wasn’t so what’s the game then? Who benefits from a complete lockdown? Is this all a calculated ploy to force manufacturing back to America? Are the reptilians behind this?

I'm not one to believe in turn-key conspiracies.  I think everyone's jumped on this for their own reasons and the ensuing clusterfuck is a result of all those disparate interests acting in concert.
You have those in the medical profession getting their turn to visit the hallowed green rooms of the talk shows; finally getting a chance to seem just as important as your garden-variety "climate scientist".  Honestly, the WHO and the CDC are demonstrating that they are the same as any other bureaucracy -- mostly useless.  You've got the oligarchs able to prick the investment bubble and then get a multi-trillion dollar bailout from us and our progeny.  The left, as evidenced by that bailout bill, is trying to use the cover of this panic to enact every woke dream they can think of.  The media gets to broadcast doom and gloom 24/7 to a newly enlarged, housebound audience (and in doing so they make the usual allusions to Orange Man Bad).  The state governors are loving the dictatorial powers they now wield.  It's better than being President in many respects.  Big tech is almost certainly using this to hone surveillance skills.  And I'm sure I'm leaving out other cogs in the wheel.

The question is will we learn anything from the last fortnight's meltdown?  Being America, I doubt it.  My thought is that on Independence Day everyone's making Coronavirus jokes while talking about training camps opening in a few weeks.  If we don't violently demand a reckoning, we're fucked.  Because this playbook will be trotted out again, and much sooner than we'd like.

The unemployment numbers are nothing short of cataclysmic. 3.3 million Americans filed this week, shattering the previous one week record of 695,000 set in 1982.  The only possible silver lining is that at least a third of these jobs are expected to come back quickly after all this is over, but that still leaves over 2 million who might be out of work long-term, and almost none of these people have savings to wait this out even a month.

The only good sign I can see from that is that it will give Trump ammo to rein in this madness sooner rather than later.  How compliant the governors are with those wishes is another matter.

Here are numbers from Australia as of the afternoon of 3/26.

178,000 people have been tested (note:: we are only testing those who may have been exposed – i.e. the testing cohort will have a larger number of positive reports than if we tested the general population)
Thus far:

2799 have tested positive

11 have died (all had serious underlying medical conditions before contracting the virus)

Infection rate of those tested is 1.57%

Death rate of those tested positive is 0.393%

Fatality rate per 100,000 of Aussie population .0477

These numbers do not indicate to me support for the current economic destruction that we are currently embarking upon.

For reference
Road deaths in Australia for last month (Feb 2020) 92
Road deaths in past 12 months 1163
Annual fatality rate for road deaths in 2019 was 4.6 per 100,000 of population. (compare to 0.0477 above)

2017 flu death rate in Australia 3.9 per 100,000 persons . (compare to 0.0477 above)

2019 flu death rate in Australia 3.0 per 100,000 persons. . (compare to 0.0477 above)

Although it is estimated that the actual rate is much higher, as one source suggests a death rate from flu annually to be about 12 per 100,000 in the over 50 age group.

Italy is currently Covid-19 central with lots of deaths which is sad.
BUT Lets be cautious and not claim that everyone who tests positively for COVID-19 after death died FROM the disease. They may very well have died WITH the disease. There is a difference and it matters.

You're living in a fantasy world.  There's no "madness" to reign in.  In NYC and other major cities effected, 75% of the population is going to get this if we go back to "business as usual".  That's not happening.  Lay off the FOX News.  Maybe by June 1 we can start to think about slowly returning to something resembling normalcy, but even that seems optimistic now.  Trump's initial response was way too slow and he fucked it all up.  Research how Sweden handled this with lightning quick action at the beginning followed by a libertarian laissez-faire approach that pretty much got everything back to normal within weeks.   They're in a fantastic situation now and can refuse to shut anything down because they were on top of it on Day 1 while Trump was sitting on his toilet tweeting for hours.

Another interesting case, Iceland:

Iceland is presenting many interesting pointers for estimating the CFR. Iceland has tested a higher proportion of people than any other country (9,768 individuals), equivalent to  26,762 per million inhabitants the highest in the world (as a  comparison, South Korea has tested  6,343 individuals).

The results of screenings have suggested 0.5% are infected;  the true figure is likely higher due to asymptomatic and as a result of many not seeking testing: estimates suggest the real number infected is 1%. Iceland is currently reporting two deaths in 737 patients, CFR. 0.27%; if 1% of the population (364,000) is infected then the corresponding IFR would be 0.05%.  However, they have limited infections in the elderly as their test and quarantine measures have seemingly shielded this group, and the deaths will lag by about two weeks after the infections. Iceland’s higher rates of testing, the smaller population. and their ability to ascertain all those with Sars-CoV-2  means they will likely provide an accurate estimate of the CFR and the IFR.  Current data from Iceland suggests the IFR is somewhere between 0.05% and 0.14%.

Yes, it's madness to believe that 75% of people are going to get this.  Either you made that number up out of thin air or you're listening to some incredibly fucking stupid people.  There's no data set for this that supports an infection rate within two time zones of that assertion.

I'm just gonna leave this here:

http://sportsandwrestling.mywowbb.com/view_topic.php?id=35175&forum_id=4&highlight=ebola

The Ebola panic thread where the other FOX News brainwashed idiot was screaming about Obama not doing enough, about something that never really came to America and wasn't very contagious in comparison (there's even a 1918 reference back then).  Let's everyone read BT's posts very carefully and laugh now (calling Ebola "Obama's Katrina" is still my favorite line in message board history since within 6 months no one remembered Ebola).  See how fluid the talking points are depending on who the president is. As someone who gets much better access to all the briefings than anyone else here because of my job, I knew that one was bullshit, but the rate of spread on this one is just crazy. The overwhelming number of cases will be minor of course, but almost everyone is going to get it over the next 2 years if not nipped in the bud.  Almost everyone.

The only people who go to Iceland in February are aurora chasers.  And they're more likely to go to Norway.
Iceland is hardly an example for the world given its isolation.  I think the concern is more that even such a cut-off island has 1% of its population infected.

I went to Iceland in February and didn't see shit.  It was cloudy every night so the van didn't even leave the hotel.  Other than that, great trip.  Of course the country is completely deserted so not sure what infectious disease rates there are supposed to prove.  I'm sure KGB would love to cite other Iceland stats to prove his point.  They have 1 jail with 200 prisoners, and those prisoners are more or less free with little security watching them, even the couple of murderers they have.  So clearly since Iceland and the U.S. are so similar, KGB believes we should abolish prisons here.  What a fucking libtard.

Hobby Lobby is in the news again, refusing any paid sick leave to employees and demanding employees continue to work.

Fun Icelandic prison fact: the old prison is now the parliament building.
