So the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine has kicked my ass a bit. Got it Tuesday morning. By Tuesday night was feeling pretty lethargic. Still continuing to this point. I"m usually up most mornings @ 545 am. The last 2 days I haven't gotten up till past 9 am. I did force myself to still go to the gym yesterday and do 90 min on the treadmill, and I'll probably go this afternoon as well...but there definitely has been some kickback this time I posted this on my facebook page...decent way to look up Hospital utilization. Varies county to county. Even looking in my area, my hospital system is getting hit way worse than others because we have rural branches, and bring in those transfer patients https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/12/09/944379919/new-data-reveal-which-hospitals-are-dangerously-full-is-yours#res944380257 Last edited on Thu Jan 14th, 2021 03:53 pm by Principal_Raditch |

What's been the mindset at your hospital among the staff? Has mostly everyone jumped at the chance to get jabbed or are there many who are more circumspect about it? Is there anyone you know who had the virus but still got this "vaccine"?

Mostly older nurses in their 60's or more from what i've seen. It's hard to know for sure since we have staggered days we get them, and it runs for hours at a time. There have been a few RN's and Nurses aides who contracted it earlier who still went and got their shots. Not sure if they've gotten any of the side effects. I know a few who also got the first shot, and tested positive for it a few days later, since it takes a few weeks for the antibodies to start forming. Again, no idea on their side effects or not.

There's a nursing home up my way that stuck all the residents (just the first shot) and then had a wave of infections. Many people seemed perplexed by this. I don't think they're doing their homework, merely relying on the news readers on local TV.

Your wife is a teacher, Rossi, how do you find their pay scale and their union power? The Canadian versions are as I said.

The NYC teacher's union is one of the most powerful in the country, but they're very much in the pocket of the Democratic establishment in the city. They flex their muscles when they want, protect bad teachers sometimes and leave some good ones hanging out to dry. There are many teachers unions throughout the country not nearly as powerful. The pay scale in NYC is one of the better ones, but given cost of living it's not like any of them are doing great. The vaunted benefits package that KGB knows so much about isn't as good as mine, so my wife is on my insurance (I have exceptionally good insurance though since I work for an international organization and not a shitty American company). I'm not sure what other perks he thinks there is, my wife has to pay for her own supplies and if she wants to do anything special for the kids that's directly out of her pocket. They used to reimburse up to $200 I think, with a system so complicated it wasn't worth trying to take advantage of it, but they took that away now too. My wife got no maternity leave and had to use her sick days, which she now owes to the city to the point that she'll never catch up. We planned it so that my son was born in late April so that summer break was coming up, and it still wiped out PTO and then some. You'd think the union would be able to negotiate maternity leave at least, but no. Anyway, the teachers union sure as hell isn't the police union, that's for sure, and the job is more dangerous. We get paid about middle of the pack as far as salary is concerned but this is an at will state sot that means you will get fucked. It is against state law for teachers to strike. “Texas Government Code, Sec. 617.003. Prohibition on Strikes by Public Employees. (a) Public employees may not strike or engage in an organized work stoppage against the state or a political subdivision of the state. (b) A public employee who violates Subsection (a) forfeits all civil service rights, reemployment rights, and any other rights, benefits, and privilegesthe employee enjoys as a result of public employment or former public employment. (c) The right of an individual to cease work may not be abridged if the individual is not acting in concert with others in an organized work stoppage.”

Almost 390,000 deaths. A couple months ago Trump said it was almost over. 1 of the main reasons he is out soon.

Many of my family were teachers; grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, my dad, and currently my nephew (who basically grew up in my parents' house and is like a younger brother) and wife work in public schools. They were and are all very well taken care of. My father's pension after retirement was 80% of his last salary, and the raises came every year like clockwork. Their health care packages are superior to private industry. I work for a massive corporate company, one that everyone in the world knows, and my wife's health care package blows mine out of the water. Now, that will differ from town to town, but where I live is very low income, one of those places where every kid in school gets a free breakfast and free lunch, and teachers and administrators are still well above the per capita income for the region. So much funding now comes from the state and national level (and how does that happen if the unions don't have big-time clout?) that it doesn't matter how poor your town is, the schools get the things they need.
