Dr. Anthony Fauci says football teams would need to emulate plans by the NBA and MLS for a "bubble" format or consider not playing in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a key member of the White House task force on the virus, told CNN that football players would need to be isolated from others and tested regularly.

"Unless players are essentially in a bubble -- insulated from the community and they are tested nearly every day -- it would be very hard to see how football is able to be played this fall," Fauci said. "If there is a second wave, which is certainly a possibility and which would be complicated by the predictable flu season, football may not happen this year."
While the NFL could follow its pro basketball and soccer counterparts and consider isolating players to begin the season, it is unclear how the college game could do the same on university campuses.

The NFL has maintained that it will start its regular season as scheduled on Sept. 10, when the Kansas City Chiefs host the Houston Texans. The offseason program has been conducted remotely, but the plan is for training camps to be held in person starting in late July.

A source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler earlier this week that the NFL Players Association told players that they could be tested roughly every three days for COVID-19 and isolated if they test positive.

On Wednesday, the NCAA Division I Council approved a six-week practice plan for football that begins in July in hopes of starting the 2020 season on time.

In May, Fauci said football is the "perfect setup" to spread the coronavirus, noting the close contact that players engage in every play.

Fauci is definitely getting off to this Dr. Doom stuff. He probably makes his wife recite Covid infection rates while he fucks her.

Fauci is a terrible scientist. He continually spouts his hypotheses as fact, and makes recommendations or predictions based on these. He's by no means the only one guilty of this. Politicians and TV news don't want honest scientists who will correctly answer any questions about Covid with "I don't know." The whole scientific method starts with "I don't know," and then seeks to discover increasingly better answers based on research and experiment.

Of course, an honest scientist is of no use to politicians, and they will always be rejected in favor of someone like Fauci, because a wrong answer given with confidence is better than an honest answer if "I don't know."

It's been the same since the dawn of time. What happens when we die? "I don't know" was drowned out by myriad confident descriptions of an afterlife.

Of course, without someone like Fauci, the politicians may have taken "I don't know" to mean that there is no serious problem.

Germany's leader since 2005 is a doctor of quantum chemistry and the reason that the numbers are so low in Germany is that there was already a plan for something like this. Trump shut down the group that was planning for something like this.

Someone please show this quack out the door. It seems all he's capable of doing is thinking out loud. He's like some broad trying on a blouse in a store and changing her mind every 5 seconds about whether she looks good in it or not. Fauci and Neil Ferguson both have horrible track records when it comes to predicting the course of infectious diseases and yet these two men somehow became the most powerful men in the world this spring because of their opinions on an...infectious disease.

The problem is that even the gentlest questioning of Fauci (despite how often he is wrong) results in you being labeled a right-wing conspiracy nut.  Trump doesn't like him, which makes him untouchable for everyone else.  This is the guy who got everything about AIDS wrong in the '80s, doing horrible damage to the gay community, and he got everything wrong about Covid in the first few weeks.  But he has his own cult-like following amongst anyone who's not a Trump supporter.
