Johnny K-9, aka Taurus Bulba, aka Bruiser Bedlam....
Cornette said he met K-9 wrestling in a promotion in Michigan.  He called it Midwest Wrestling.
I did a quick Google search, but didn't find anything about it and it's not listed in K-9's Wikipedia page.  It was before he became Bruiser Bedlam.

Anyone know anything about this fed?

There is a big gap in indy wrestling results from the 80s and 90s. Basically the period between the end of the territories and the start of the internet. He wrestled mostly in Ontario as Johnny K-9 before he became Bedlam, so wrestling in a Michigan indy seems to make sense.

Before the border was tightened up, it was common for wrestlers from southern Ontario to venture down to Buffalo, Pittsburgh or Detroit, and their environs, for shows. K9 was definitely one of them.

If you look up Bruiser Bedlam or Johnny K-9 or whatever on Wrestling Data you will see results for him for something called Midwest Territorial Wrestling located in Michigan in 1994 and 1995.

YouTube has some MTW videos and just did a quick scan of a couple and MTW #2 has a match between Bruiser Bedlam and Cactus Jack.

My friends and I would kneel down and cross our arms like an "X" like Johnny K9 did and thought it was the funniest thing.

The MTW promoter was Gary Woronchak. Coach Kurt newsletters had a number of early 90s results in and around Michigan. I think he wrestled or managed as Baron Von Schneider on many of them, so if you find back issues from that era, they might fill in some blanks.

I called the Coach Kurt hotline to see if Hogan beat Andre at WMIII.  I still have it on cassette some where in the garage.

I think I called to find out the results of WMVI. But I was a regular caller for years.

They could make a movie about Ion Croitoru/Johnny K-9. Some guys in pro wrestling are fake tough guys. Other guys are tough in the sense that you would not want to face them in a bar fight. This guy was a legitimately dangerous criminal. How he managed to not get sent away to prison for a long stretch before his death is truly amazing.

- In 1996 he was president of the Satan's Choice biker gang. They bombed the Sudbury, Ontario police department and did $133,000 of damage.

- While on bail awaiting trial for the bombing, he was arrested for assault.

- Also while waiting for trial, he was arrested for extortion and carrying a concealed weapon. This, but apparently not the assault, led to his bail being revoked and him going to jail.

- At the police station bombing trial in 1998 he got a sentence of 2 years and 9 months, including time served.

- In 2005 he was arrested and charged with the execution style murders of an Ontario couple on behalf of the Gravelle crime family which is part of the Canadian mafia.

- While on bail for the murder charges, he got arrested for extortion again and had his bail revoked.

- The murder charges were dropped when the Ontario AG withdrew them due to the belief that winning in court wasn't likely. However, Croitoru pleaded guilty to the extortion charges, getting time served and the forfeiture of $10,000 of his bail.

- By 2009 he was in Vancouver and was part of the United Nations gang, so called because it admits members with no regard for race or ethnicity. That year he was charged with conspiracy to commit murder, the targets being members of the rival Red Scorpions gang.

- In 2011 he was charged with first degree murder of a rival gang leader and attempted murder of that guy's girlfriend.

- In exchange for pleading guilty in 2013 to the prior conspiracy to commit murder charges as well as drug trafficking conspiracy charges, the separate murder charge was stayed. He got 13 years in prison, but because of time served while awaiting trial was paroled in 2016.

- He died in 2017 of some sort of respiratory ailment while residing in a halfway house.

So you're saying he wasn't all bad?

Wasn't the MTW title one of the belts being defended on Cornette's Superbowl of Wrestling show?

I'd link to my stories on him, but they are still being moved into the new SlamWrestling.net

Let me say this about Jon -- he was one of the greatest characters I ever met.

He allowed me to make programs for his shows in Hamilton and gave me backstage access when I was just a newsletter guy. Therefore, he opened plenty of doors for me.

Do I believe he did all the shit he did? Absolutely.

One time, I think in 1999, he started screaming at me in the dressing room for printing some of the facts of things he did, and my rebuttal was simple, "Johnny, if I got anything wrong, I will fix it. But I know it's all fact." King Kong Bundy stood up for me.

I went to his funeral, and it was perfect. The gangs were barred. People were yelling and screaming at each other outside the funeral home. There was leather everywhere. I was the ONLY one in a suit, and therefore was mistaken for a police officer.

The thing is that he'd been transferred from a British Columbia prison to a halfway house about a 10-minute bike ride from my house. Had I known he was there, I would have visited. It's also where he died.
