Expires at end of July. I'll call it a 'bonus' but I'm not sure that's the right word for it.

Supporters of 'the program' will point to all of the shutdowns and point out 'sending people back to work' when nobody is hiring is disastrous.

Opponents will say that people won't go to work as long as one going to work loses money. And that there's alot of abuse, etc

Way too many people are making more now than they made when they were working. I have 2 friends who admit they're cleaning up and haven't worked since March. Assistance is one thing but you shouldn't make more from the government than you make from your job. Enough already.

I worked all the way through and a part-time job on top of that and pretty much make less than people that haven't left their sofa in years (much less the past 4 months)

I'm ok with it to a point. You shouldn't be 'making more' than you were before all the shutdowns.

My 2 friends are in the service industry too.  They're sending $1.4 billion to dead people so I guess this is nothing.  But it's astounding to me with how intrusive and huge our government is that they can't figure out from IRS returns how much people make and give them 75% of that to keep them afloat rather than incentivize people to never want to go back to work.  No wonder liberals seem to want this shutdown to last forever.  In the meantime small business owners are losing everything and their loans are being sent to corporations or are mired in bureaucratic hell.

I'm getting that "bonus" and glad I do. If and when it expires on July 25, I'll be OK getting less unemployment, just means I need to buckle down a little on the budget.

This money is being printed out of thin air. If it keeps going like this we're about a year away from Weimar Republic Germany. That is, bringing home your paycheck in a wheelbarrow of worthless paper.

Is that a week or bi-weekly or monthly. The last one doesn't seem possible.

It's $2000 a month for four months here, with it being extended for anothe couple months.

For those who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19. Replaces EI  foyer those that qualify but has been used by thousands of professional welfare recipients looking for some easy cash since there were really no checks and balances for those applying.

If anything it should be what would make you whole after unemployment. That is, if you make $1000 a week and unemployment pays you $800, you should get $200 to make you whole

Yep, looking at inflation, on top of the price gouging at the grocery stores that I'm seeing. Meanwhile, all of the shit we've worked for is now worth less than it was six months ago.   It's unbelieveable what a disaster this is.

If people are better off sitting at home than working then the issue is wages. The minimum wage has not kept pace with the increase in the cost of living and the increases in productivity of workers, in fact if it kept pace with increases in productivity since 1968 it would now be over $19.00 an hour.

The issue isn't people getting paid too much to stay at home during a pandemic, it's them not getting paid fairly when they worked.

I think the plan is to switch to paying in toilet paper
