Impact essentially rebooted the company with the Slammiversary PPV into the first set of TV tapings this weekend.  The company has actually been quite good during this Covid quarantine and well worth checking out again if you haven't seen it in years.  Last night featured a new open and theme song.

Last night's Impact featured a great main event where the Motor City Machine Guns ended The North's year+ Tag title reign.  The North (Ethan Page and Josh Alexander) have quietly become one of the best tag teams in the world, somewhat similar to The Revival but with 1/100th of the publicity.  These two teams nearly tore it up last night.

All of the Impact titles have now changed hands in the past 2 days.  Eddie Edwards regained the Impact World title at Slammiversary and he's probably their most reliable guy.  Chris Bey signed a few months ago after being a west coast indy standout and he's the new X Division champion.  And Deonna Purrazzo was released after an almost non-existent NXT run and she's the new Women's champion, and deservedly so.

EC3 and Eric Young are back and have immediately been thrust into main event angles.  EC3 started a feud with Moose over the old TNA title and Eric Young will be Edwards' first challenger for the World title.

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson cut a great promo last night and will be feuding with Ace Austin and his stable of Madman Fulton and Reno Scum.  Last night reminded everyone how criminally underutilized these guys were for years in WWE.  They can cut both funny and serious promos if you just let them be themselves and have already done both in 2 days in Impact.

Heath (formerly Slater) has joined as a comedy act looking for a job.  He's been kicked out of the building twice and is trying to get Rhino to get him hired.  Last night there was a cute segment where security asked him if his name was on the list and he said, "Just look for Heath.  I'm not allowed to have a last name anymore".

Brian Myers (Curt Hawkins) made his Impact re-debut last night under a mask.  Right before the show aired he tweeted "Vince McMahon, I'm sorry, I love *superkick*. Impact. Let's. Go."

Josh Matthews and his real-life wife Madison Rayne are calling these shows from their living room and have a good chemistry (I would hope) that's revitalized Josh's commentary and reminded me of why I thought he was good 15 years ago on Velocity.  This stretch is probably his best work in Impact.

It was a very entertaining 2 hours last night that flew by and blew away anything WWE has done in the past year, and even rivaled some of AEW's best shows.

Apparently Tessa Blanchard asked for $150,000 to drop the title in the ring. I guess she thinks it's still 1998. I think she might have bet big on herself and lost with her behaviour over all this. AEW don't need that kind of ego in the locker room and WWE aren't hiring at the moment.

Impact is a great show at the moment, but the empty arena stands out now that AEW and WWE both have some semblance of a crowd. Their ring is far too loud as well, it sounds like a training school.

I was surprised that Don Callis was a bit of a downgrade on Madison Rayne at Slammiversary, Matthews and Rayne are a great commentary team, and the inside joke of Matthews continually hitting on her and her always turning him down is pretty funny. Of course, because of the past 20+ years we've been led to believe that getting a good commentary team together is some impossible task, so anyone remotely entertaining come off like Gorilla and Jesse in 2020.

I don't think WWE is leading you to believe that, I think you're getting EXACTLY what Vince's vision of a commentary team should be: completely bland, generic, interchangeable.  He doesn't want an announcer to stand out and anyone who shows the slightest bit of personality is immediately berated and brought in line or removed.  Dio Madden had a unique voice and showed enthusiasm and lasted 2 weeks.  Everyone is expected to be a Michael Cole clone in the worst possible way, but minus Cole's actual broadcasting experience.  Mauro Ranallo is so lucky he has well-documented mental health issues, complaints of bullying on the record, and a big reputation outside of wrestling that brings about tons of scrutiny.  Remove any of those things and he would've been fired 168 times by now.  He's literally the only guy who's voice is even recognizable, aside from the fact that he's actually good too.  Samoa Joe is probably the 2nd best announcer now after only a month on the job, but that is grading on a curve so steep that he still wouldn't rank amongst the top 100 announcers ever even after getting more experience.  But he already blows away the other hair-dos with lips.  Corey Graves had so much potential, but man he was brainwashed and became the ultimate ass-kissing company man in record time, but he's well on his way to a decades-long career so it's the smart move to stop making sense on commentary and start parroting Vince's idiotic lines.

If Eric Young is in line for your " world title", then your promotion has major issues.

Yeah and if you can't figure out a way to get a talent like Eric Young on TV then your promotion has major problems.

He's not that talented.Wow - you say he's not that talented and you mean it?  I will agree with you about the fact that he shouldn't be in World Title contention, really at any point in time, but this is the same league that gave the belt to a girl who then took it home and held it and them hostage.  Eric Young is as talented or more talented than most of the people in the WWE locker room, and on top of it, he's very entertaining.  And in WWE, entertaining means more than technically sound.  So put him in Impact and he probably could be the locker room leader and will definitely raise the level of the performance of the people he wrestles against.  Impact was dead and buried about 20 months ago, yet they worked really hard to get better and then got to the point that they could benefit from all of the releases that will bring them Major League talent.

Feel free to argue Eric Young's talent level all you want, but don't come back at me with some comparison to Kenta Ibushi Hashimoto Kwang Hakushi Nakamura Jr.  Because comparing US Wrestling with Japanese Wrestling is similar to comparing US Baseball with Japanese Baseball - you really can't compare the two.  And I readily admit that.

I would've put Eric Young's bumping ability in his younger years up there with anyone I've ever seen.  He was right up there with Heenan during those Team Canada days.  To say he was talented would be an understatement, and that's not even counting the personality aspect.  Obviously he's over 40 now and doesn't do that anymore, but he can absolutely outwork 90% of the WWE locker room.  He's a former World champion in Impact and is clearly going to put Eddie Edwards over at this point, so I have no problem with it.  He's a good first challenger, and everyone knows he's not going to win.  He'll settle into a mid-card role and I wouldn't at all be surprised if he's semi-retired and working in Impact as an agent by this point next year.  He will help a lot of the younger guys in that role.

Sorry, but I feel that Eric Young is boring and is good at being that.

We agree on that.  I wouldn't say Rollins has no talent, but from the first moment I saw him in ROH as Tyler Black, I just really disliked him on a personal level.  As a heel that's fine, and they've finally found a character and a role that he's good in (puking notwithstanding).  But as the top babyface in the company leading off every show with a 20-minute promo, he was as big a channel-changer as I've ever seen.  X-Pac heat to the millionth degree.

To me Eric Young works best as a comedy foil, like when he was Super Eric. Vacating the tag titles because he wouldn't admit that he was the same character was brilliant (IMO)
