Aren't Twinkies still out there? What do people call them ? Once a Twink , always a Twink, no?   I thought the company made a comeback and there's stuff like Twinkies cereal out now.  Can't honestly remember if I ever had a Twinkie, though I do remember buying those Vachon Cakes ( I think that's what they were called). Pretty much the same idea as the Twinkie.

Vachon Flakies are so much better than Twinkies.

The Junkfood Dog?

Good in the Mid-South obviously, but sucked after 1986.

I'd never heard of them until this thread. I Googled them. They looked liked something I would of liked as a kid or even in my 20's, but certainly not after that. At least I don't think?

I think this is very much a Midwestern thing and possibly confined to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and some bordering states. Deep fried cheese curds are a major junk food here.

You can get them at state and county fairs as well as other public gatherings that have fair type food. Lots of burger joints and sports bar type restaurants will have them on the appetizer menu. There are people who swear by them as the greatest of all junk foods and the Covid-19 related cancellation of the Minnesota State Fair has sent some people into a state of depression because they can't get ones that are sold there.

I am not one of those people. They are disgusting. If I never have one again, it will be too soon.

Yeah - "squeaky cheese". I had some when visiting Wisconsin. I didn't see the appeal - tasted like a bunch of oil with breading on it. Maybe I got them from a bad restaurant. I much prefer fried mozzerella sticks over cheese curds.

I'm the opposite.  I like curds over Motz sticks, but I'm not a big fan of either.
