I saw his final match at a St. Paul Civic Center house show against Goldust. Pillman had a muscular upper body, but the car accident that broke his ankle left him with twig like legs, little mobility, and without the aerial moves like dropkicks. By then was just a punch and kick brawler who'd jaw at the ringside fans for heat because he could do little else. That said, you'd have had no idea looking at him that he'd be dead just hours later.

The conspiracy theorists who insisted it was a work were grasping at straws looking for a way to not accept that Pillman had died. While flipping around the channels ahead of watching the WWF Badd Blood PPV the next day, I stopped at the local ABC affiliate's news show. Pillman's death was reported, with comments from the police and the county medical examiner. I knew then and there that this news, sadly, was true.

Lets try again.

I always found it funny that Pillman took his (storyline) Turner release and used it as an actual 'written release' from WCW and went and got a WWF contract.

Ive never seen that uncensored before. Great stuff and I may add...if he didn’t destroy his ankle, maybe he’s the guy with the huge money feud vs Austin, and maybe Rock never gets the chance to shine.

Rock was going to shine no matter what, but that Loose Cannon gimmick with Pillman still able to work would've made him one of the biggest stars in the business too.  He would've been right there with the top names for a few years.  You could tell that WWE had big plans for him at least 2 different times that were ruined by his injuries.  By the end, he was decidedly a mid-carder with that Goldust angle, but still getting tons of TV time.  They went out of their way to get him involved in high-profile things that were less physically demanding, but had lost a bit of confidence in him.

One of my favorite Pillman moments occurred while watching "Shotgun Saturday Night, randomly, with my brother. My bro had been a casual wrestling fan in the late 80's, so he knew some stuff.

At the end of the episode, Pillman does a run-in and my bro says, with no sarcasm: "holy shit! Sammy Hagar's a wrestler, now?!"
