The other jobber’s graphic said “Avalanch”. Did the guy in the production truck quit school after 2nd grade? Ridiculous stuff like that made WCW look so bush league compared to the WWF.

It looks like Spivey’s first suplex was a bit off and the guy landed hard on his shoulder. But after that, nothing really stuck. Spivey powerbombed him right on his ass so no harm there, and he suplexed him another time that did no damage to the back and neck. And the punches and forearms looked solid but also looked worked - ho harm. Then at the end they threw him out and he glared up at Spivey. That’s when it gets good. Spivey’s boot to the face was legit, as was the beating outside - but still, they could have really hurt him if they wanted to, they just made him feel it to send him a lesson. Sid grabbed the guy and legit was holding him up and back, and Spivey could have smashed his face, but he didn’t. To be honest, that was one of the more professional beatdowns that they could’ve given the guy. It really could’ve gotten ugly.

Cornette talked about this before. I don't remember all the details but I think he said this guy was legit part of a motorcycle gang or something and he didn't sell much because he thought it would ruin his credibility. Spivey got pissed and stiffed the fuck out of him as a result.

Sid definitely got his shots in too, maybe even more than Spivey.

Looked to me like he just did the bare minimum selling, going down but popping right up again and again. They finished the match but once he was thrown out of the ring afterwards and popped up again, you could see the red in both Spivey’s and Vicious’ eyes as they both ran out after him.

Watching it right now. The problem in the first minute of the match is that this Blackwell cat is not selling ANYTHING. You get suplexed by Spivey and pop right back up? Clothesline? Pop right back up. Sid and Spivey double clotheslined him, he got right back up. Wow. That looks bad. And he tried to kick out of the powerbomb? LOL. And it's on. Spivey's looking at him on the outside and kicked the shit out of him in the head. That was legit.

That match didn't even really start. Both Sid and Spivey were in the ring the whole time. I guess Sid was staying in the ring to make sure this guy didn't try to fight back. He was also probably pissed that the guy knocked him over. The ref didn't make any attempt to get Sid out of the ring, which (kayfabe) would normally have happened, so they possibly/probably said something to the ref. Obviously the ref also could see that something wasn't right here.

beejmi wrote: How does this even make it onto the broadcast? This question comes up a lot with regards to 80s and early 90s TV. Horrible, business-exposing, wrestling getting broadcast on taped TV shows. From untrained jobbers to NYSAC refs in MSG that weren't smartened up and botched finishes. Quite a few of them are posted here o this board. I recall another Sid match where a soon-to-be-departing Hercules completely no sold Sid's powerbomb finisher. WWF would have those marathon tapings with 18 squash matches spread out for three weeks of television, a hot opener to get people going, and then a main event usually with Hogan, sprinkled in with all of the podium interviews and Piper's Pits or Brother Love segments. All of that, and they didn't really have time to tape "extra" matches to fill in the shows if there was a fuck-up, thus they would actually go back out and re-shoot a match or have a "do over". WCW didn't have the foresight or the technical capability to edit all of this. I think that's why their shows look so sloppy sometimes. To me, it kinda makes it more "real" though. A real fight wouldn't look so clean and polished.

I went to a couple syndication tapings for the WWF and they were easily the worst cards I ever attended. If you didn't get a hot angle, those were excruciating to sit through. Five hours of squashes, with tons of down time between matches.
