I've been watching old clips of Carson on YouTube recently. Goddam, these bring back good memories. This clip showed up yesterday in my feed. It's Johnny and Doc talking about Thanksgiving and basically it gets into divorce talk, and Johnny can't stop laughing. I don't think tv will ever be this good again. I defy you to watch this and not smile. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d55S9EYtHbw Last edited on Sun Nov 22nd, 2020 02:21 am by Blazer ____________________ "Well, maybe I like the nightlife just a little bit more than I like the damn gym, jack! I don’t know how much was truly ad-libbed and how much they planned out, but it seemed completely spontaneous and it was fantastic. I thought late night TV sucked with Leno and an old Letterman, but this new crop is just unwatchable and I haven’t seen a second of it in years. It’ll never be like this again.

Youtube's algorithm must not be that varied because I've been watching a lot of Johnny clips recently, too. Yeah, it's a matter of opinion, but I really can't see how you could watch a Colbert/Fallon/Kimmel and think they're fit to carry Johnny's water. The gulf in talent, warmth, and the common touch is staggering. Christ, Doc Severinsen was miles ahead of those clowns and he was third banana on Carson.

Antenna TV airs Johnny's show weeknights at 9PM Central. I watch it whenever I can. The shows have a good combination of old-timers and then young talent at the time.

Pluto has a Carson channel, it's just old Carson shows 24/7 and it's fucking amazing. I watch it all the time and just wish we could go back to that day when late night television was watchable and must-see..

Most of you have probably seen this clip but it's Sinatra and Rickles on The Tonight Show. These people are true entertainers, stars. I sometimes wonder if today's celebrities could exhibit this much talent if they'd stop wasting their time trying to prove how enlightened they are and spent a little more time on their craft? Make sure you listen to Sinatra's story about Rickles at the end.
